Soft Neural Interfaces for Circuit‐Level Analysis of Magnetogenetic Deep Brain Stimulation in Parkinson's Disease Models

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Magnetogenetic deep brain stimulation (MG‐DBS) represents a wireless neuromodulation that has demonstrated long‐lasting behavioral benefits in Parkinson's disease models. However, the circuit‐level mechanisms underlying these therapeutic effects have remained uncharacterized due to limitations of conventional neural interfaces.

Wind Turbine Aerodynamic Performance by Lifting Line Method

open access: yesInternational Journal of Rotating Machinery, 1998
The vortex model of propellers is modified and applied to the high-speed horizontal axis turbines. The turbine blades are replaced by lifting lines and trailing vortices which shed along the blade span. The model is not a free wake model, but it is still

Assessment of Turbulence Modelling in the Wake of an Actuator Disk with a Decaying Turbulence Inflow

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
The characteristics of the turbulence field in the wake produced by a wind turbine model are studied. To this aim, a methodology is developed and applied to replicate wake measurements obtained in a decaying homogeneous turbulence inflow produced by a ...

A model for the symmetry breaking of the reverse Benard-von Karman vortex street produced by a flapping foil

open access: yes, 2008
The vortex streets produced by a flapping foil of span-to-chord aspect ratio of 4:1 are studied in a hydrodynamic tunnel experiment. In particular, the mechanisms giving rise to the symmetry breaking of the reverse B\'enard-von K\'arm\'an vortex street ...

A ring-vortex free-wake model for uniformly loaded propellers. Part I-Model description.

open access: yesEnergy Procedia, 2018
Abstract The paper presents a free-wake actuator disk model as applied to uniformly loaded propellers without slipstream rotation. The wake vorticity, originating from the disk edge, is represented by the superposition of a ring vortex sheet and a semi-infinite cylindrical vortex tube modelling the far wake.

Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and

Effect of Piezo-Embedded Inverted Flag in Free Shear Layer Wake

open access: yesAerospace, 2019
The use of flexible inverted piezo embedded Polyvinylidene Difluoride (PVDF) as a simultaneous energy harvester and as a wake sensor is explored. The oscillation amplitude (characterized by voltage output) and oscillation frequency of the piezo-embedded ...
