Low molecular weigth proteins of bovine seminal plasma related with semen freezability using two-dimensional polyacrilamide gel electrophoresis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
A eletroforese bidimensional em géis de poliacrilamida representa uma técnica valiosa para separação e caracterização das proteínas e através deste método muitas proteínas do plasma seminal de várias espécies foram descritas e caracterizadas.

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Evaluating the involvement of autolysosomes in the nuclear translocation of fluorescent proteins

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Endogenously expressed fluorescent proteins can be degraded by autophagy and transported to cell nuclei via the nuclear pore complex. But in some cell lines, for example, HeLa cells which are positive for immunoreactivity of a receptor ligand, such as UCN I, in cell nuclei, fusion of autolysosome with the nuclear envelope is involved in the nuclear ...

The representative pattern of the supernatant after cryopreservation of good (Cy3, green spots) and poor freezability (Cy5, red spots) semen after 2D-DIGE analysis.

open access: yes, 2018
Numbers indicate proteins more abundance in the supernatant after cryopreservation of poor freezability semen.

Semen characteristics, freezability, and application of motility-based protein markers (proAKAP4) in assessing the suitability of superior Bali bulls (Bos sondaicus) at the Regional AI Center

open access: yesReproduction and Breeding
The use of molecular markers in selecting superior bulls, including Bali bulls, for the AI program will significantly increase reproductive efficiency and affect the economic aspects of several countries, especially in the livestock industry sector ...

Effect of terahertz irradiation on DNA damage repair in living cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated the effect of terahertz (THz) wave irradiation on DNA double‐strand break (DSB) repair in living cells. We found that THz irradiation enhanced DSB repair at specific frequencies, whereas heat treatment inhibited it, indicating that this effect is nonthermal and frequency‐specific.

Evaluation of Dietary Supplementation with Antioxidants on Fertility Parameters in Stallions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The aim of the present study was to investigate whether dietary supplementation with antioxidants affects semen fertility parameters in New Zealand Standardbred stallions.

ATZ‐1 promotes DNA replication efficiency to maintain normal meiotic function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Absence of ATZ‐1 interferes with meiotic DNA replication and cell cycle function via CHK‐1. This causes downstream defects associated with DNA damage and genomic integrity. Taken together, this study suggests that ATZ‐1 influences DNA replication efficiency and cell cycle function to maintain normal meiotic function.

Isolatrion and characterization of seminal extracellular vesicles subsets and their impact on sperm freezability in stallions

open access: yes
The ability of spermatozoa to withstand cryopreservation differs between stallions. While the underlying mechanisms of these differences are not fully understood, seminal plasma (SP) may play a crucial role in modulating sperm cryotolerance.
