Photonic chip based optical frequency comb using soliton induced Cherenkov radiation

open access: yes, 2015
By continuous wave pumping of a dispersion engineered, planar silicon nitride microresonator, continuously circulating, sub-30fs short temporal dissipative solitons are generated, that correspond to pulses of 6 optical cycles and constitute a coherent ...

A monolithic MQW InP-InGaAsP-Based optical comb generator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We report the first demonstration of a monolithic optical-frequency comb generator. The device is based on multi-section quaternary/quaternary eight-quantum-well InP-InGaAsP material in a frequency-modulated (FM) laser design. The modulation is generated

Transient Regime of Kerr Frequency Comb Formation

open access: yes, 2011
Temporal growth of an optical Kerr frequency comb generated in a microresonator is studied both experimentally and numerically. We find that the comb emerges from vacuum fluctuations of the electromagnetic field on timescales significantly exceeding the ...

Miniature Optical Atomic Clock: Stabilization of a Kerr Comb Oscillator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Mechanical clocks consist of a pendulum and a clockwork that translates the pendulum period to displayed time. The most advanced clocks utilize optical transitions in atoms in place of the pendulum and an optical frequency comb generated by a femtosecond

XUV frequency comb metrology on the ground state of helium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The operation of a frequency comb at extreme ultraviolet (XUV) wavelengths based on pair-wise amplification and nonlinear upconversion to the 15th harmonic of pulses from a frequency comb laser in the near-infrared range is reported.

Origami‐Inspired Structural Design for Aquatic‐Terrestrial Amphibious Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work presents a lightweight amphibious origami robot actuated by a single shape memory alloy wire. A rigid foldable origami structure with displacement amplification enables efficient terrestrial crawling and aquatic swimming. The addition of fan‐shaped units allows controllable turning in both environments.

Frequency comb generation threshold via second-harmonic excitation in χ(2) optical microresonators

open access: yesAPL Photonics, 2020
We investigate the threshold of χ(2) frequency comb generation in lithium niobate whispering gallery microresonators theoretically and experimentally. When generating a frequency comb via second-harmonic excitation, also commonly known as second-harmonic
