Mitigation of frequency stability issues in low inertia power systems using synchronous compensators and battery energy storage systems

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission & Distribution, 2019
The inertia of power systems is a key aspect of frequency dynamics and stability. The increasing penetration of non-synchronous generation reduces the available inertia and makes it fluctuating during the day depending on the online units.

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Performance of a 12-GHz fiber-optic system for beam-waveguide antenna stability testing [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
A 12-GHz fiber-optic system is a critical part of a test configuration that was proposed for measuring the fractional frequency stability of the Deep Space Station (DSS)-13 beam-waveguide (BWG) antenna.

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

Electronic circuit delivers pulse of high interval stability [PDF]

open access: yes, 1966
Circuit generates a pulse of high interval stability with a complexity level considerably below systems of comparable stability. This circuit is being used as a linear frequency discriminator in the signal conditioner of the Apollo command ...

Third-order chromatic dispersion stabilizes Kerr frequency combs

open access: yes, 2014
Using numerical simulations of an extended Lugiato-Lefever equation, we analyze the stability and nonlinear dynamics of Kerr frequency combs generated in microresonators and fiber resonators taking into account third-order dispersion effects.

A Key Performance Indicator to Assess the Frequency Stability of Wind Generation Dominated Power System

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
High penetration of power electronic interfaced generation, like wind power, has an essential impact on the inertia of the interconnected power system. It can pose a significant threat to the frequency stability.

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...

Modeling the effect of anisotropic pressure on tokamak plasmas normal modes and continuum using fluid approaches

open access: yes, 2015
Extending the ideal MHD stability code MISHKA, a new code, MISHKA-A, is developed to study the impact of pressure anisotropy on plasma stability. Based on full anisotropic equilibrium and geometry, the code can provide normal mode analysis with three ...
