Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Frequency Support from Multiple Utility-Scale Grid-Forming Battery Energy Storage Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
The large-scale integration of renewable energy sources has led to challenges related to frequency stability in lowinertia power systems. Utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESSs) based on grid-following (GFL) and grid-forming (GFM) inverters ...

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Frequency Support for the Decarbonization of an Isolated Low-Inertia System With the Integration of RES and BESS

open access: yesIEEE Access
This paper proposes a technical methodology to decarbonize an isolated low-inertia system with the integration of a Renewable Energy Source (RES) and a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Review of Grid-Forming Energy Storage and Its Applications

open access: yes发电技术
ObjectivesThe characteristics of low inertia and low damping in “double-high” (high renewable energy penetration and high power electronics application) power system pose significant challenges to grid stability, particularly in terms of frequency and ...

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

Control Strategy for Improving Active Frequency Support Capability of Offshore Wind Farm

open access: yesShanghai Jiaotong Daxue xuebao
In low frequency alternating current (AC) transmission systems, offshore wind farm is unable to respond to changes in onshore grid frequency in a timely manner due to frequency decoupling and signal transmission delays between the offshore wind power ...

Support Before Frequency in Discrete Diffusion

open access: yes
Discrete diffusion models are increasingly competitive for language modeling, yet it remains unclear how their denoising objectives organize learning. Although these objectives target the full data distribution, we show that the exact reverse process induces a hierarchy between coarse support information and finer frequency information. For uniform and

Natural frequencies of elastically supported orthotropic reactangular plates [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1975
An expression is derived from which the natural frequencies of a rectangular orthotropic plate, under any combination of simply supported, elastically supported, or clamped boundary conditions, can be obtained. The Mindlin–Timoshenko theory, which includes the effects of transverse shear and rotary inertia, is used to describe the plate motion.
