Some Properties of Fresh and Ripened Traditional Akcakatik Cheese.

open access: yesKorean journal for food science of animal resources, 2018
Akcakatik cheese (yogurt cheese) is produced by drying strained yogurt with or without adding cloves or black cumin. The main objective of this study was to detect the properties of both fresh and ripened Akcakatik cheeses and to compare them. For this purpose the biogenic amine content, volatile flavor compounds, protein degradation level, chemical ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Active Control of Properties of Fresh and Hardening Concrete

open access: yesRILEM Technical Letters
Concrete mixtures have an optimized mix design in view of attaining desired properties. However, after mixing, during further processing, it is typically not possible to further adjust the performance of the fresh and hardening concrete. A new and emerging approach is to actively control the concrete properties by means of responsive particles or ...

Strength and fresh properties of borogypsum concrete

open access: yesConstruction and Building Materials, 2013
Abstract This paper reports on a comprehensive study on the properties of concrete containing borogypsum. Properties studied include setting time and volume expansion of paste, unit weight and consistency of fresh concrete, compressive and splitting tensile strength of hardened concrete.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Fresh and strength properties of self-compacting concrete with different waste materials of cement replacement [PDF]

open access: yesJES: Journal of Engineering Sciences
This study experimentally evaluates the fresh and hardened properties of self-compacting concrete (SCC) incorporating three sustainable supplementary cementitious materials—wood waste ash (WWA), ceramic waste powder (CWP), and ground-granulated blast ...

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.
