Molecular characterization and expression patterns of Nanog gene validating its involvement in the embryonic development and maintenance of spermatogonial stem cells of farmed carp, Labeo rohita

open access: yesJournal of Animal Science and Biotechnology, 2018
Background The homeobox containing transcription factor Nanog plays crucial roles in embryonic development/proliferation and/or maintenance of spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) via interacting with transcription factors such as Oct4 and Sox2 in mammals ...

Anadromous fish as marine nutrient vectors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The tidal freshwater of Virginia supports anadromous herring (Alosa spp.) spawning runs in the spring; however, their importance as nutrient delivery vectors to the freshwater fish food web remains unknown.

Triblock Polymer Engineering Enables Hydration‐Rich, High‐Performance, Fouling‐Resistant Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A molecularly engineered triblock polymer (PHZ) rapidly reorganizes into a hydration‐rich interfacial layer on diverse surfaces, strongly suppressing hydrophobic attraction and fouling. The triblock polymer provides robust energy and steric barriers to oily foulants, enabling high‐performance antifouling at ultralow dosage.

Response Characteristics of Defatted Mealworm (Tenebrio molitor) Instead of Fish Meal to the Intestinal Immunity and Microflora of Juvenile Pikeperch (Sander lucioperca)

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition
The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of varying levels of defatted mealworm as a substitute for fish meal on the growth, intestinal health, and intestinal microflora of juvenile pikeperch (Sander lucioperca).

Plastic particle ingestion by wild freshwater fish: a critical review.

open access: yesEnvironmental Science and Technology, 2019
Plastic pollution, especially microplastics (MP) pollution, is a hot topic in both mainstream media and scientific literature. Although rivers are potentially the major transport pathway of this pollution to the sea, plastic contamination in freshwater ...

Effects of Different Levels of Carbohydrates on Growth Performance, Hepatic and Intestinal Health, and Intestinal Microflora of Juvenile Pikeperch (Sander lucioperca)

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition
Pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) is a species with great potential for aquaculture in Eurasian countries, while feed costs limit the scale of pikeperch farming. Adding carbohydrates to the feed as an energy source is a viable approach to reduce costs and to
