Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures, 1988
Abstract— The magnitudes and directions of the frictional forces must be considered in any fracture mechanics analysis of crack growth under fretting fatigue conditions. A simple nonlinear friction model has been developed which relates the waveforms of the frictional forces to those of the applied forces when fretting occurs.

This chapter deals with the investigation of contact interaction of two bodies under the conditions of fretting fatigue. We study the fracture processes in the material (and construct the paths of crack propagation) in the zone of cyclic contact of two bodies under the conditions of fretting fatigue, in particular, depending on the friction coefficient

So far, we have presented several of the elements of calculation necessary to analyse a range of idealised fretting contacts. They merely provide tools for determining the state of stress, strain and displacement, but do not, in themselves, permit production of initiation or crack propagation criteria, without extensive experimental data. The object of

Mechanics of fretting fatigue crack formation
Wear, 1995Abstract Fretting is a contact damage process arising from surface microslip associated with small-scale oscillatory motion of damped structural members. The fretting damage process is a synergistic competition among wear, corrosive and fatigue phenomena driven by both the microslip at the contact surface and cyclic fretting contact ...

Fretting Corrosion and Fretting Fatigue
1982Two metals and alloys, in intimate contact, but with a small amount of relative motion between them, will often show excessive weight losses. If the relative motion between the parts is caused by applied stresses the parts may also suffer from premature fatigue failures.

Fretting fatigue life estimations based on fretting mechanisms
Tribology International, 2011Abstract Generally the fretting fatigue S – N curve has two regions: one is the high cycle (low stress) region and the second is the low cycle (high stress) region. In a previous paper we introduced the fretting fatigue life estimation methods in high cycle region by considering the wear process; with this estimation method the fretting fatigue ...

Cracking under fretting fatigue: Damage prediction under multiaxial fatigue
The Journal of Strain Analysis for Engineering Design, 2002Fretting is one of the plagues of modern industry. It occurs whenever a junction between components is subjected to cyclic sliding, with small relative displacements at the interface of the contacting surfaces. Further cyclic bulk stresses may be superimposed on to one or both components. The investigation of fretting wear and fretting fatigue started
