Friction induced rail vibrations

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2012
A model of rail, considered as multiple supported beam, subjected on friction induced vibration is studied in this work using FEM. The model is presented as continuous system and the mass and elastic properties of a real object are taken into account. The friction forces are nonlinear functions of the relative velocity during slipping.

Friction Induced Vibration: Brake Moan

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1995
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Techniques have been developed to model friction induced vibration and these were applied to the brake moan of a vehicle. A vehicle system model and the MSC/NASTRAN solutions for geometric nonlinear and complex modes were modified by DMAP for friction input.

Friction‐Induced Vibration of Artificial Hip Joints

GAMM-Mitteilungen, 2009
AbstractA hip replacement system is analysed with respect to its susceptibility to friction induced vibrations under laboratory conditions and in a pseudo‐in vivo setup. The method of complex eigenvalue extraction within the framework of finite‐element modelling and analysis is used to identify the geometric properties and system parameters that might ...

Bifurcation and Chaos in Friction-Induced Vibration

Design Engineering, 2002
Friction-induced vibration is a phenomenon that has received extensive study by the dynamics community. This is because of the important industrial relevance and the evere-volving development of new friction models. In this paper, we report the result of bifurcation study of a single-degree-of-freedom mechanical oscillator sliding over a surface.

Friction induced vibrations in shift gearboxes

ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 2014
AbstractIn shift gearboxes, audible vibrations can arise during the process of clutch engagement. Measurements show an unstable axial motion of the gear unit input shaft. In order to explain this effect, an approach which establishes the interaction of the slipping clutch and the gearing is proposed.

Friction induced vibration

2011
Frictional vibrations have been induced in a system having an elastically suspended, and viscously damped slider loaded onto a surface driven-at constant velocity. Exact mathematical analysis-of the system reveals a unique value of the driven surface velocity, above which frictional vibrations of the slider cannot exist.

Friction-induced vibrations of reciprocating contacts

Tribology International, 1995
The tangential and normal oscillations for three reciprocating and sliding pairs of different materials are experimentally obtained at different normal loads and reciprocating frequencies. The magnitude and phase shift of the transfer function have been measured to correlate the normal and tangential induced oscillations.

Friction-induced vibration: Quantifying sensitivity and uncertainty

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2010
The limited success of predictive models of friction-induced vibration can, in part, be attributed to the inherent sensitivity of friction-coupled systems to variations, often uncontrolled, in parameter values such as the friction coefficient. This paper explores the sensitivity and uncertainty of predictions from a modal point of view, using models of

Piezoelectric power generation using friction-induced vibration

Smart Materials and Structures, 2017
In order to examine the feasibility of power generation by using friction-induced vibration with a piezoelectric element, we performed experiments and numerical analysis. In the experiments, the generated power in the piezoelectric element and the displacement of an oscillator were measured by a newly developed apparatus that embodied a single-degree ...

VIBRATIONS AND FRICTION-INDUCED INSTABILITY IN DISCS

The Shock and Vibration Digest, 1998
The simple shape and common occurrence of disks as machine elements belies a complexity of behavior that can be an important factor in the improvement of modern machine performance. The purpose of this paper is to give a thorough account of the understanding gained from recent research investigations into the dynamics of disks.
