Friction Induced Vibration: Brake Moan
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1995<div class="htmlview paragraph">Techniques have been developed to model friction induced vibration and these were applied to the brake moan of a vehicle. A vehicle system model and the MSC/NASTRAN solutions for geometric nonlinear and complex modes were modified by DMAP for friction input.

Frictionally Induced Vibrations
2010From a system dynamics point of view, technical systems with friction are non-linear dissipative open systems. Even if it is possible for a system to be in a state of steady motion, it can only practically take place if it is stable relative to small disturbances. Otherwise, the perturbations intensify, resulting in a periodic or chaotic vibration.

Frictional vibrations have been induced in a system having an elastically suspended, and viscously damped slider loaded onto a surface driven-at constant velocity. Exact mathematical analysis-of the system reveals a unique value of the driven surface velocity, above which frictional vibrations of the slider cannot exist.

The Measurement of Friction and Friction-Induced Vibration
Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1970The design, development, and application of a pin-on-disk tribometer for the measurement of friction and friction-induced vibration is described. Careful isolation techniques eliminated many of the errors in measurement which are associated with vibration arising from the apparatus or the surroundings.

A study of friction induced vibration
2011Frictional vibrations, which occur when two solid bodies are rubbed together, are analyzed mathematically and observed experimentally. In the mathematical analysis, the non-linear differential equation of motion during the slip period is derived making use of the experimental friction-velocity curve.

Friction-induced vibrations of reciprocating contacts
Tribology International, 1995The tangential and normal oscillations for three reciprocating and sliding pairs of different materials are experimentally obtained at different normal loads and reciprocating frequencies. The magnitude and phase shift of the transfer function have been measured to correlate the normal and tangential induced oscillations.

The onset of friction-induced vibration and spragging
Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2010Abstract The minimal dynamic models are used to investigate the influences of geometric coupling on frictionally-excited system. At a certain set of system parameters, spragging can occur where the steady-sliding is indeterminate. It is found that the sprag condition becomes the boundary of the regime for the non-existence of the equilibrium in the ...

Robust stabilization for friction-induced vibration with parameter uncertainties
2015 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics (AIM), 2015Friction-induced vibration (FIV) is considered one of the principal causes of noise generated in mechanical systems. Furthermore, in practical cases, FIV is influenced by a great number of parameters which vary prodigiously. Nonetheless, the conventional passive structure modification remedy is verified to be of low flexibility under changeable ...

Experimental analysis of friction-induced vibrations at the finger contact surface
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 2010When a finger moves to scan the surface of an object, the sliding contact generates vibrations that propagate in the finger skin and transmit the information about the object characteristics to mechanoreceptors. Mechanoreceptors convert vibrations into electric impulses sent to the brain. In this context, by appropriate experiments, a

Friction-Induced Vibrations of Window Sealing Systems
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2005<div class="htmlview paragraph">The problem of squealing from vehicle windows opened or closed in partly wet conditions has been investigated. Experiments were conducted using a glass-run seal sample and a tangentially moving glass piece installed on a test bench.
