Optical Tests of a 3.7-m diameter Liquid Mirror: Behavior under External Perturbations
We have built and tested a 3.7-m diameter liquid mirror that rotates on a ball bearing. We have carried out extensive optical tests. We find that although the ball bearing has a poor quality, the quality of the mirror, with mercury layers 1-mm thick, is ...

A versatile approach is presented for fabricating smart multifunctional textiles by integrating thermo‐fluorescent carbon dot/polymer nanocomposite coatings with 3D‐printed interlocked architectures. The fabrics exhibit temperature‐responsive fluorescence, durable hydrophobicity, strong antibacterial and antioxidant activity, and enhanced UV protection.

How to play a disc brake [PDF]
We consider a gyroscopic system under the action of small dissipative and non-conservative positional forces, which has its origin in the models of rotating bodies of revolution being in frictional contact.

Rapid Fabrication of Self‐Propelled and Steerable Magnetic Microcatheters for Precision Medicine
A rapid Joule heating fabrication method for the production of self‐propelling, adaptive microcatheters, with tunable stiffness and integrated microfluidic channels is presented. Demonstrated through three microrobotic designs, including a steerable guiding catheter, an untethered wave‐crawling TubeBot, and a distal‐end propelled microcatheter, it was ...

Application of Spiral Ring Dampers in Vibration Reduction of Aeroengine Bevel Gears
In view of the problem that the vibration stress of the axle driven bevel gear of an aeroengine exceeds the permissible stress, a spiral ring friction damper is designed for the bevel gear.

An ion‐mediated structural engineering strategy enables versatile modulation of PVA–Alginate hydrogel microstructure. We systematically examine how different ion combinations affect hydrogel mechanical properties and analyte diffusivity. Applying this novel strategy to hydrogel as the outer membrane in an electrochemical glucose biosensor allows ...
