Tribological properties of graphite-fiber-reinforced, partially fluorinated polyimide composites [PDF]

open access: yes
Graphite-fiber-reinforced polyimide (GFRPI) composites were formulated from three new partially fluorinated polyimides and three types of graphite fiber. Nine composites were molded into pins and evaluated in a pin-on-disk tribometer.

Tribological characteristics of perfluoropolyether liquid lubricants under sliding conditions in high vacuum [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Tribological characteristics of three PFPE's (Fomblin Z, Demnum, and Krytox) were studied under high vacuum using a four-ball apparatus with 440C steel specimens.

Anti‐Slip Material‐Based Strategies and Approaches

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review highlights the principle mechanisms of slipping at the microscale, linking contact mechanics with a friction behavior model for surface interfaces. Main strategies to develop anti‐slip properties to the surfaces are discussed alongside standardized testing approaches.

Tribomaterial factors in space mechanism brake performance [PDF]

open access: yes
The asbestos/phenolic pads of Shuttle Remote Manipulator System (SRMS) brakes are unsuitable for use in long life space mechanisms because their friction decreases on extended sliding in high vacuum.

Geometrical aspects of the tribological properties of graphite fiber reinforced polymide composites [PDF]

open access: yes
A latin square statistical experimental test design was used to evaluate the effect of temperature, load and sliding speed on the tribological properties of graphite fiber reinforced polymide (GFRPI) composite specimens.
