Refinement of amino‐acid conformation vs. difference density maps in time‐resolved serial femtosecond crystallography data analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dFoCC pipeline starts with observed DED and resting‐state coordinates, which are then used to generate a library of triggered states. Correlation analysis of the calculated DED features of each candidate vs observed DED permits quantitative evaluation of candidate structural quality.

Cross Scale Tribological Behavior of Textured High-Entropy Alloy Coatings

open access: yesLubricants
This paper presents a cross-scale model for predicting the tribological behavior of textured coatings made of high-entropy alloys. The research methodology includes molecular dynamic modeling, a modified fractal surface model, and the Green’s method with

Structural studies and functional engineering of NanX: an anhydro‐sialic acid transporter from Escherichia coli

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biophysical characterisation shows that NanX, a membrane transport protein from the major facilitator superfamily (MFS), forms both monomers and dimers after purification. AlphaFold modelling and substrate docking provide information on residues likely involved in substrate recognition for NanX and another MFS member, NanT.

Study on the Nano-Friction Behavior of Nickel-Based Ag Film Composites Based on Molecular Dynamics

open access: yesLubricants, 2023
The nano-friction behavior of nickel-based Ag film composites was evaluated using molecular dynamics simulations. The mechanical properties, the surface morphology, the migration behavior of Ag atoms and the defect evolution during repeated friction were

Structural and biochemical insights into the thermostable esterase Ta0887 from Thermoplasma acidophilum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, a novel esterase from the thermoacidophilic archaeon Thermoplasma acidophilum was biochemically and structurally characterized. Our results demonstrate that Ta0887 is a highly thermostable esterase that preferentially hydrolyzes p‐nitrophenyl hexanoate and possesses an α‐helical cap domain that likely contributes to its substrate ...

Optimization of the Raman spectroscopic method for crystal orientation and residual stress of aluminum oxide

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
A half-wavelength plate was set in the common light path to simultaneously alter the polarization directions of both incident laser and scattered Raman signals, and the distribution functions of the polarized Raman scattering intensity about the ...

Identification and characterization of a gene conferring stress resistance in Escherichia coli and cyanobacteria

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Functional screening identified PcSyn14890, a cyanobacteria‐specific protein that enhances growth and stress resistance in E. coli and Synechocystis PCC6803. Although we expected it to function as a molecular chaperone, it was unable to protect against thermal aggregation of GAPDH.
