Passiv damping on spacecraft sandwich panels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
For reusable and expendable launch vehicles as well as for other spacecraft structural vibration loads are safety critical design drivers impacting mass and lifetime. Here, the improvement of reliability and safety, the reduction of mass, the extension

Instability mechanism and failure characteristics of underground cavern in block system under the action of seismic waves

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Seismic waves with tensile stress, high amplitude, and low frequency are most likely to trigger block instability and sliding. Blocks with a single sliding surface are more prone to movement than those with multiple constraints, and roof‐positioned blocks are especially vulnerable to slide.

Enhancement of the flexible spacecraft dynamics program for open spacecraft [PDF]

open access: yes
The modifications and additions made to the Flexible Spacecraft Dynamics (FSD) Program are described. The principal addition to the program was the capability to simulate a single axis gimble platform nadir pointing despin control system. The formulation

Research progress and current status of dynamic wave propagation characteristics in rock mass: A review

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This review elucidates the velocity–dispersion–attenuation coupling mechanisms of wave propagation in rock masses, compares six representative models, and reveals how pressure, temperature, mineral composition, and anisotropy jointly control dynamic responses in complex geological media.

Shape Optimisation for Friction Dampers with Stress Constraint

open access: yes
Friction dampers are classically used in turbomachinery for bladed disks to control the levels of vibrations at resonance and limit the risk of fatigue failure. It consists of small metal components located under the platforms of the blades, which dissipates the vibratory energy through friction when a relative displacement between the blades and the ...

GaIn‐Induced Polarization Control in PVDF for High‐Efficiency Energy Harvesting and Instantaneous Wireless Sensing

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
This study presents a liquid metal–engineered β‐PVDF composite enabling high‐performance piezoelectric–triboelectric nanogenerators. Guided by MD/DFT simulations, GaIn doping promotes β‐phase formation and dipole alignment, while native oxides enhance charge retention.

Low‐Cost Friction‐Based Force‐Limiting Connection With Reduced Sensitivity to Machining Tolerances and Accelerated Repairability

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper presents a novel yet practical friction‐based structural component design for low‐damage earthquake‐resistant structures. The proposed connection design is based on a conventional slotted‐bolted configuration with the novelty being the use of loose steel washer plates to establish the friction‐sliding interface.
