Dynamic models of friction wedge dampers

Proceedings of the 1997 IEEE/ASME Joint Railroad Conference, 2002
Friction wedges play a central role in the vertical dynamics of railroad freight cars. They also play a role in lateral dynamics and stability. While friction wedges are mechanically very simple, their inherent nonlinearities lead to complications in modeling and dynamics.

Modeling of an Elastomeric Friction Damper

Rubber Chemistry and Technology, 2009
Abstract Frictional resistance of a hollow rubber cylinder steadily sliding inside a rigid sleeve has been studied theoretically and reported here. This is inspired by a new class of elastomeric friction damper consisting of an unbonded rubber cylinder, axially compressed and radially expanding to contact an outer rigid sleeve and generate ...

Characterization of Turbine Blade Friction Dampers

Volume 6: Turbo Expo 2004, 2004
This paper discusses approach for characterizing the dynamic behavior of a friction damper. To accomplish this, the deflection of the damper is measured as a function of an applied force for a range of amplitudes, normal loads, and excitation frequencies.

Steel tubular friction damper and vibration reduction effects of double-layer reticulated shells

Journal of constructional steel research, 2020
A steel tubular friction damper (STFD) is proposed for vibration reduction in large-span spatial structures. The effects of the amplitude of the applied displacement, the pre-tightening force of the high-strength bolts, and the material of the friction ...

A novel double slip loads friction damper to control the seismic response of structures

, 2020
In this study, the performance of a proposed friction damper with two slip loads in controlling the seismic response of steel moment resisting buildings structures under moderate and intense earthquake excitations is investigated.

A Drill Rod Coulomb Friction Damper

ASME 2012 Noise Control and Acoustics Division Conference, 2012
A Coulomb friction damper, consisting of a case-hardened roll-threaded collar resting against a reverse taper segment of drill rod, is studied for its noise-reduction potential. Axial impact causes the drill rod to be excited in many transverse bending modes of vibration, along with longitudinal and torsional resonances.

Vibration damper for a friction clutch

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1982
A vibration damper is disposed between the input and output members of a friction clutch to reduce the transmission of torsional vibrations. The damper has a plurality of elastomeric bands each having one end connected to the clutch input and the other end connected to the clutch output.
