Analysis of Coulomb friction vibration dampers
Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1978Abstract An analysis of the steady state response of a rotational Coulomb friction vibration damper has been carried out. Such dampers are sometimes used in various industrial applications. Analysis of the steady state phase plane is used to determine various response quantities such as amplitude ratio, phase lag, energy dissipated per cycle, and rms

Assessment of semi-active friction dampers in auxiliary mass dampers’ suspension
Engineering Structures, 2019Abstract Because of the efficiency of semi-active friction dampers to dissipate mechanical energy, their use have been extensively proposed for a variety of mechanical systems to reduce vibration amplitudes. A considerably simple model for a semi-active friction damper can be obtained with the use of an elastic element coupled to a vibratory system ...

Impact damper for controlling friction-driven oscillations
Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2007Control of friction-driven oscillations by using an impact damper is investigated. An experimental setup of a single degree-of-freedom friction-driven oscillator with an attached impact damper is designed and fabricated. An approximate nonlinear mathematical model of the friction-driven oscillator is derived.

Friction dampers, the positive side of friction
2004Friction is frequently seen as an unwanted phenomenon whose influence has to be either minimised or controlled. In this work one of the positive sides of friction is investigated: friction damping. Friction dampers can be a cheap and efficient way to reduce the vibration levels of a wide range of mechanical systems.

Control Concepts of Semi-Active Friction Dampers
Volume 1: 22nd Biennial Conference on Mechanical Vibration and Noise, Parts A and B, 2009Reduction of structural vibrations is of major interest in mechanical engineering for lowering sound emission of vibrating structures, improving accuracy of machines and increasing structure durability. Besides design optimization and passive damping treatments, active structural vibration control can be applied to reduce unwanted vibrations.

Friction Dampers to Control Building Motionics
Architectural Science Review, 2000Means of dissipating energy in buildings oscillating due to seismic activity include viscous dampers, yielding of the structural members or of added sacrificial elements, and friction devices which slip when ground accelerations exceed a specified value. Of these schemes, friction dampers have proved to be the cheapest and least intrusive, and the most
