Friction and wear of plasma-deposited diamond films [PDF]
Reciprocating sliding friction experiments in humid air and in dry nitrogen and unidirectional sliding friction experiments in ultrahigh vacuum were conducted with a natural diamond pin in contact with microwave-plasma-deposited diamond films.

Energy Loss from Reconnection with a Vortex Mesh
Experiments in superfluid 4He show that at low temperatures, energy dissipation from moving vortices is many orders of magnitude larger than expected from mutual friction. Here we investigate other mechanisms for energy loss by a computational study of a

Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Simulation of the small punch creep test with consideration of variation of material properties [PDF]
A new finite element model of the small punch creep test is described. The material constitutive relationship for creep considered is a simple Norton power law: in this study the exponent in the power law is varied for each element to simulate the random

We consider the dynamics of a one-dimensional system consisting of dissimilar hardcore interacting (bouncy) random walkers. The walkers' (diffusing particles') friction constants xi_n, where n labels different bouncy walkers, are drawn from a ...

Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

Dual arm master controller development [PDF]
The advanced servomanipulator (ASM) slave was designed with an anthropomorphic stance gear/torque tube power drives, and modular construction. These features resulted in increased inertia, friction, and backlash relative to tape driven manipulators ...

A new correlation for pressure drop in the cooling process of Al2O3-water nanofluid in pipes [PDF]
This paper discusses the pressure drop of Al2O3-water nanofluid in laminar flow regimes in circular pipes at different temperatures and Al2O3 volume concentrations in both cooling and heating processes.
