Dynamical Friction in Pairs of Elliptical Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1990
AbstractWe present numerical experiments on dynamical friction in pairs of elliptical galaxies of unequal mass. We confirm that the self-gravity of the response is not important and show the drastic effect of the deformability of the companion which reduces the decay time by more than a factor 2.

Research on Spur Gear Profile Modification Based on Stiffness of the Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication Friction Pair

open access: yesJixie chuandong, 2023
The influence of elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) to the spur gear profile modification is considered for the first time, and a new method of spur gear profile modification is proposed using gear EHL friction pair meshing stiffness to replace gear ...

A sulfonated modification of PEEK for ultralow friction

open access: yesFriction, 2022
Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) is a widely used material for friction pairs due to its excellent mechanical strength, good wear resistance, and chemical inertness.

Casimir Friction Force Between Polarizable Media

open access: yes, 2012
This work is a continuation of our recent series of papers on Casimir friction, for a pair of particles of low relative particle velocity. Each particle is modeled as a simple harmonic oscillator.

A low-order decomposition of turbulent channel flow via resolvent analysis and convex optimization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We combine resolvent-mode decomposition with techniques from convex optimization to optimally approximate velocity spectra in a turbulent channel. The velocity is expressed as a weighted sum of resolvent modes that are dynamically significant, non ...

Efficiency of polymer materials in highly loaded systems in the aviation industry

open access: yesAviation, 2023
The static coefficient of friction was calculated on an inclined plane tribological stand. Different specimens and masses loading the system were used during the experiment. Surface-to-surface contact was tested in a pin-on-plate setup.

Influence of electric current on the Casimir forces between graphene sheets

open access: yes, 2013
We investigate the dependence of the thermal Casimir force between two graphene sheets on the drift velocity of the electrons in one graphene sheet.

Monitoring of lubrication and wear in-situ by triboelectrification under grease lubrication

open access: yesFriction
The stable operation of friction pairs is one of the most critical factors to maintain the stable operation of mechanical equipment. The real-time monitoring of lubrication state of the friction pair is very important to ensure the normal operation of ...

Improving Methods of Wear Resistance in Heavy Loaded SlidingFriction Pairs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Improvement of wear resistance and durability of machine elements with sliding friction pairs is the important tribological problems. The wear resistance has been determined with many configurative parameters, technological parameters, and operational ...

Wind induced structural response analysis of photovoltaic tracking supports by unidirectional fluid structure coupling

open access: yesScientific Reports
To investigate the wind-induced vibration characteristics of photovoltaic array tracking supports, this study uses the harmonic superposition method to simulate pulsating wind time series and, combined with fluid–structure coupling technology, analyzes ...
