Dynamically induced friction reduction in micro-structured interfaces

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
We investigate the dynamic behavior of a regular array of in-plane elastic supports interposed between a sliding rigid body and a rigid substrate. Each support is modelled as a mass connected to a fixed pivot by means of radial and tangential elastic ...

Upcycling Keratin‐Based Textile Waste Into High‐Performance Hybrid Fibers Via Tuning the Interfacial Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Keratin recovered from animal‐hair textile waste is fractionated and blended with cellulose to produce continuously spun hybrid fibers. Selecting the high‐molecular‐weight keratin fraction enables 30 wt.% keratin incorporation while maintaining high strength in dry and wet states.

The nonlinear vibrations of orthogonal mechanism of vibrating table in view of friction [PDF]

open access: yesMechanical Sciences, 2018
Abstract. In dynamics of the orthogonal mechanism of vibrating table main attention is paid to the effect of friction on vibrational process when it is interacting with non-ideal energy source. As a result of analysis of numerical solutions of nonlinear equation of motion, it is established that in general, for the period of rotation, both sliding ...

Mechanics of Telson Ridges in Mantis Shrimp for Impact Analysis and Implications for Bioinspired Elastic Shell Designs

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The mantis shrimp telson reveals how ridged biological shields control deformation under impact. Inspired by this architecture, telson‐inspired ridged curved shells transform ridge geometry and macroscopic curvature into bidirectional snap‐through, tunable stiffness, and enhanced hysteretic energy dissipation for multifunctional architected materials ...

Bio‐Inspired Multifunctional Superhydrophilic Coatings With Remarkably Fast Self‐Healing Abilities

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We developed bio‐inspired multifunctional hydrogel‐based coatings that exhibit extremely fast/repeatable self‐healing abilities, long‐lasting anti‐fogging performance, superhydrophilicity in air, and underwater superoleophobicity. By doping multivalent metal‐ions into the hydrogel networks, which promoted hydrogen bonding formation and enhanced the ...

Torsional vibration analysis of automotive drivelines [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
One of the most important source of noise and vibrations associated with vehicles is the vibration of driveline systems. Such phenomena are subjectively associated with customer complaints.
