Frugivores and cheap fruits make fruiting fruitful [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Evolutionary Biology, 2014
AbstractAnimal seed dispersal provides an important ecosystem service by strongly benefiting plant communities. There are several theoretical studies on the ecology of plant–animal seed–disperser interactions, but few studies have explored the evolution of this mutualism.

The fruit, the whole fruit, and everything about the fruit [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Botany, 2013
Fruits come in an impressive array of shapes, sizes, and consistencies, and also display a huge diversity in biochemical/metabolite profiles, wherein lies their value as rich sources of food, nutrition, and pharmaceuticals. Mycotoxins in Fruits, Fruit Juices, and Dried Fruits

open access: yesJournal of Food Protection, 2003
This review gives an overview of the presence of mycotoxins in fruits. Although several mycotoxins occur in nature, very few (aflatoxins, ochratoxin A, patulin, Alternaria toxins) are regularly found in fruits. It has been shown that the presence of fungi on fruits is not necessarily associated with mycotoxin contamination.

They are unaware of just how experimental it is, hence our nerves.
