Abscission of flower bud pedicels in begonia

open access: yes, 1974

CPPU Influences Fruit Quality and Fruit Abscission of 'McIntosh' Apples [PDF]

open access: yesHortScience, 2001
A range of concentrations and timings of CPPU application were evaluated in attempt to identify situations in which fruit size, flesh firmness, and soluble solids could be increased while minimizing increased incidence of fruit asymmetry and reductions in flower bud formation and fruit surface red color on 'McIntosh' apples (

Effects of tree diversity and mycorrhizal type on the spatio‐temporal variability of leaf litter production and quality in temperate forests

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 4, April 2026.
This study tested whether combining high tree species richness with mixed mycorrhizal types (arbuscular mycorrhizal [AM] and ectomycorrhizal [EM] fungi) enhances productivity in forest ecosystems. Results did not support this: neither litter production nor nutrient traits benefited from mycorrhizal mixing.

Genome-wide digital transcript analysis of putative fruitlet abscission related genes regulated by ethephon in litchi

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2015
The high level of physiological fruitlet abscission in litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) causes severe yield loss. Cell separation occurs at the fruit abscission zone (FAZ) and can be triggered by ethylene. However, a deep knowledge of the molecular events

Practical, physiological and molecular aspects of fruit abscission

open access: yes, 2006
Many fruit species bear an abundance of flowers which produce a surplus of fruit that the tree is unable to support. In anticipation of this the major fruit species developed an immature fruit physiological drop as self regulatory mechanism.

Growth and development characteristics of fruit and vegetative bud outgrowth of Prunus sibirica L. in relation to physiological fruit drop

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology
Background Prunus sibirica L. is one of the most pivotal eco-economic tree species in China’s arid and semi-arid areas. The phenomenon of physiological fruit drop in P. sibirica L.

Phytohormonal dynamics in the abscission zone of Korla fragrant pear during calyx abscission: a visual study

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
IntroductionPhytohormones play a crucial role in regulating the abscission of plant organs and tissues.MethodsIn this study, the ultrastructure of the sepals of Korla fragrant pears was observed using a transmission electron microscope, and high ...

Machinism of abscission of leaves and reproductive parts of plants - a model

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2014
Abscission of leaves and reproductive parts of plants is presented in the form of a model which allows the reader to see the process as a whole. The process of abscission was divided into 2 parts: the first of which may be inhibited or reversed by auxin,

The regulation of sweet cherry fruit abscission by polar auxin transport

open access: yes, 2005
Inconsistency of cropping is an important problem for UK sweet cherry production. Premature fruit abscission in Prunus can reduce yields severely, however, the environmental cues and hormonal signals that trigger abscission have not been identified ...

Transcriptomics of shading-induced and NAA-induced abscission in apple (Malus domestica) reveals a shared pathway involving reduced photosynthesis, alterations in carbohydrate transport and signaling and hormone crosstalk

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2011
Background Naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA), a synthetic auxin analogue, is widely used as an effective thinner in apple orchards. When applied shortly after fruit set, some fruit abscise leading to improved fruit size and quality.
