Dynamic Changes of Fruit Shape Traits and Its Correlation to the Morphology of Other Organs in Cucumber

open access: yesAgronomy, 2020
Fruit shape and size are important assessment parameters to evaluate and classify accessions in cucumber breeding. Clarifying the relations of the shape and size of commodity fruits or mature fruits to that of other organs, like seed, leaf, flower and so

Genetic Variability, Correlation, and Path Analysis of Thai Commercial Melon Varieties

open access: yesInternational Journal of Agronomy, 2022
In the selection phase of melon breeding programs, genetic variability is a critical component for yield improvement. The goals of this study were to discover the variables that affect melon fruit weight and examine genetic variability, correlation, and ...

Water Deficit Timing Affects Physiological Drought Response, Fruit Size, and Bitter Pit Development for ‘Honeycrisp’ Apple

open access: yesPlants, 2020
Irrigation is critical to maintain plant growth and productivity in many apple-producing regions. ‘Honeycrisp’ apple characteristically develops large fruit that are also susceptible to bitter pit.

Active Iron‐Drug Nanocomplexes Improve Photodynamic and Photothermal Cancer Therapy by Mitigating Tumor Hypoxia and Counteracting Tumor Heat Resistance

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 9, April 4, 2025.
A pH‐responsive nanocomplex (PAFH) enhances photodynamic (PDT) and photothermal therapy (PTT) by addressing tumor hypoxia and heat resistance. Under laser irradiation, PAFH releases hypericin for singlet oxygen generation and apigenin to inhibit HSP‐90 and alleviate hypoxia.

Designing for Degradation: Transient Devices Enabled by (Nano)Cellulose

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Recent progress in transient devices enabled by (nano)cellulosic materials is reviewed. Transiency mechanisms, advantages of nanocelluloses, and a suite of applications are discussed. A circular thinking approach coupled with life cycle assessment is applied to critically revisit the potential, advantages, and challenges of nanocellulose‐enabled ...

Design of the first sub-milligram flapping wing aerial vehicle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Here we report the first sub-milligram flapping wing vehicle which is able to mimic insect wing kinematics. Wing stroke amplitude of 90$^\circ$ and wing pitch amplitude of 80$^\circ$ is demonstrated. This is also the smallest wing-span (single wing length of 3.5mm) device reported yet and is at the same mass-scale as a fruit fly. Assembly has been made

A pipeline for multiple orange detection and tracking with 3-D fruit relocalization and neural-net based yield regression in commercial citrus orchards [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Traditionally, sweet orange crop forecasting has involved manually counting fruits from numerous trees, which is a labor-intensive process. Automatic systems for fruit counting, based on proximal imaging, computer vision, and machine learning, have been considered a promising alternative or complement to manual counting.

A Bio‐Inspired Perspective on Materials Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This perspective discusses natural materials as inspiration for sustainable engineering designs and the processing of materials. First, circularity, longevity, parsimony, and activity are presented as essential material paradigms. The perspective then uses many examples of natural and technical materials to introduce principles such as oligo ...
