Sizing cherry fruit with antitranspirant sprays

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1972
A film-forming antitranspirant sprayed on Bing cherry trees 10 days before harvest improved the water status resulting in fruit size increases of 15%, without affecting dry weight. Application too early (3 weeks before harvest) reduced dry weight, however.

Scalable Wheat Bran‐Algae Composites for Edible Electronics with Spray‐Coated Food‐Grade Conductive Inks

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
A fully edible wheat bran–algae substrate is fabricated through scalable mould‐compression and spray‐coating, enabling robust, food‐grade platforms for sustainable electronics. A chitosan barrier improves water resistance and ink compatibility, while activated‐carbon conductive films form uniform electrodes with Ohmic behaviour.

Artificial Shade Reduces ‘Bartlett’ Pear Fruit Size and Influences Fruit Quality

open access: yesHortScience, 1989
Abstract ‘Bartlett’ pear (Pyrus communis L.) branches were shaded at 0%, 30%, 50%, 65%, and 82.5% with polyethylene shade fabric from 50 days after full bloom until harvest. Fruit weight, firmness, and soluble solids concentration (SSC) were assessed at harvest.

Climate Change Agricultural Comparative Advantage and the US Trade Balance

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Current science indicates that warming and elevated atmospheric CO2 will have ambiguous results for crop productivity depending on crop type and geographic location, whereas increased heat stress makes livestock and human labor less productive.
