Fruit thinning.

2008
AbstractOlive fruit thinning aims at reducing limb breakage, increasing fruit size, improving fruit quality and stimulating flower bud initiation for the following year's production. This chapter describes the effect of fruit thinning on leaf:fruit ratio and transport of assimilates. Different thinning methods are discussed, which include hand (removal

Significance of flower and fruit thinning on fruit quality

Plant Growth Regulation, 2000
The effects of mechanical or chemical flower and fruit thinning on fruitquality were primarily by altering crop load. However, there were alsodirect effects of thinning agents. Fruit size was directly related tothinning intensity. In addition to crop load, age of wood, flower budquality, competition within clusters and canopy were important ...

Carbaryl as a Fruit Thinning Agent

Journal of Horticultural Science, 1967
SummaryThe results are presented of fruit thinning studies carried out over several years with the apple varieties Laxton’s Superb and Worcester Pearmain. The thinning activity of carbaryl was negligible at 0·0028% a.i. but increased rapidly over the range 0·0083% to 0·075%.

EFFECTS OF MANUAL AND CHEMICAL FRUIT THINNING ON FRUIT SIZE OF 'SIMETO' MANDARIN

Acta Horticulturae, 2004
Simeto' mandarin hybrid was obtained from a cross between 'Miho' satsuma and 'Avana seedless' mandarin at University of Catania. 'Simeto' mandarin is very productive with excellent fruit quality, but its heavy crop often causes complete inhibition of vegetative growth and consequently induces alternate bearing.

Thin-Layer Drying of Pumpkin Fruit Slices

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
Pumpkin (Cucuribita Spp.) fruit slices were subjected to pre-drying treatments and drying using methods of uncontrolled sun and oven drying. The two-way interaction between drying methods and pre-drying treatments had significant effect on chemical qualities.

lower-bud formation in pome fruits as affected by fruit thinning

Plant Growth Regulation, 2000
Fruit thinning is commonly practiced in many fruit bearing woodyperennials to improve fruit quality and to prevent ‘biennial bearing’, thesevere alternation of fruit load in successive ‘on’ and ‘off’ years. Biennialbearing has its origin in the negative effect of the presence of fruits onflower production (return bloom), and, thus, the yield for next ...
