Fine‐scale spatiotemporal dynamics of fungal fruiting: prevalence, amplitude, range and continuity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Despite the critical importance of fungi as symbionts with plants, resources for animals, and drivers of ecosystem function, the spatiotemporal distributions of fungi remain poorly understood.

The Diversity and Ecological Roles of Visitor Insects on Ganoderma sp. Fruiting Body

open access: yesJurnal Ilmu Pertanian Indonesia
Pathogenic fungi's fruiting bodies may interact with other creatures such as insects. The purpose of this study was to better understand and identify the diversity of insect visits to Ganoderma sp.

First Report of Chlorocillium lepidopterorum as a Pathogen of Cultivated Cordyceps militaris in Korea

open access: yes한국균학회지
Cordyceps militaris is widely cultivated in East Asia as an edible and medicinal mushroom. Although fungal infections affecting C. militaris have been reported in several countries, no such outbreaks have been documented in South Korea.

Developmental Dynamics of Long Noncoding RNA Expression during Sexual Fruiting Body Formation in Fusarium graminearum

open access: yesmBio, 2018
Long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) plays important roles in sexual development in eukaryotes. In filamentous fungi, however, little is known about the expression and roles of lncRNAs during fruiting body formation.

Deep Ocean Water Minerals Promotes the Growth and Cordycepin Production of Cordyceps militaris Fruiting Bodies through Proteomics Regulation

open access: yesFermentation, 2022
Deep ocean water (DOW) is rich in mineral nutrients, and our previous studies have confirmed that it promotes fungal growth and metabolite production.

Subversion of Atypical Mucin Traps by a Spore‐Coat Effector Blocks Cellular Immunity in Drosophila

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
While the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium robertsii can evade insect humoral immunity, its subversion of cellular defenses is still elusive. We identify Eac1 as a spore‐coat protein essential for infecting drosophilids by targeting atypical mucins (Sgf1 and Sgf2), which can entrap spores in a gel matrix and thereby facilitate hemocyte encapsulation.

How to build a fungal fruit body: from uniform cells to specialized tissue

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, 2007
SummaryIt is a challenge in biology to explore the molecular and cellular mechanisms necessary to form a complex three‐dimensional structure composed of different cell types. Interesting models to study the underlying processes are fungi that can transform their wire‐like hyphal filaments into complex and sometimes container‐like fruit bodies.

Heavy Metal Contamination: Impacts From Plants to the Food Chain and Eco‐Friendly Amelioration Strategies

open access: yesAgriFood: Journal of Agricultural Products for Food, EarlyView.
Heavy metal pollution reduces soil health and threatens food safety by entering plants; however, the use of nanoparticles, biofertilizers, and organic fertilizers such as biochar offers a promising strategy for improvement and sustainable agriculture. ABSTRACT Heavy metal (HM) pollution, resulting from human activities such as mining and the excessive ...
