Risk management externalities in agrifood supply chains

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Firms may under‐ or over‐invest in risk management from the social planner's perspective, resulting in a negative externality on other economic agents in the supply chain. The externality of risk management is particularly relevant for agrifood supply chains, which frequently experience disruptions and play a primary role in preventing major ...

Impact of substrate supplemented with CaCO3 on mycelial growth, yield, morphological features and storability of fruiting bodies of black poplar mushroom Agrocybe cylindracea (DC.) Marie.

open access: yesInternational Journal of Horticultural Science, 2021
Black poplar mushroom, Agrocybe cylindracea deserves special attention, due to its medicinal properties. Water and alcohol extracts from fruiting bodies of the fungus have an anti-oxidant, anti-cancer, anti-fungal, cholesterol and triglycerides blood ...

DNA metabarcoding reveals host-specific communities of arthropods residing in fungal fruit bodies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Abstract Biological communities within living organisms are structured by their host’s traits. How host traits affect biodiversity and community composition is poorly explored for some associations, such as arthropods within fungal fruit bodies.

Understanding Plant Parasitism: Hydnora Africana and European Scientific Practice in the Early Nineteenth Century**

open access: yesBerichte zur Wissenschaftsgeschichte, EarlyView.
This article will analyze the uncertainties around collecting and classifying Hydnora africana in the first half of the nineteenth century. Emerging from the distinctive dryland ecologies of South Africa, Hydnora was interpreted as strange and cryptic by Europeans primarily because it is a root parasite—a complex floral trait that was little understood.

Upgrading Grape Pomace through Pleurotus spp. Cultivation for the Production of Enzymes and Fruiting Bodies

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2019
Grape pomace, a by-product derived from winery industries, was used as fermentation media for the production of added-value products through the cultivation of two Pleurotus species.

An eight-subunit COP9 signalosome with an intact JAMM motif is required for fungal fruit body formation [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2007
Fruit body formation in filamentous fungi is a complex and yet hardly understood process. We show here that protein turnover control is crucial for Aspergillus nidulans development. Deletion of genes encoding COP9 signalosome (CSN) subunits 1, 2, 4, or 5 resulted in identical blocks in fruit ...

Improving the colonization capacity and effectiveness of ectomycorrhizal fungal cultures by association with a host plant and re-isolation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The ability of an ectomycorrhizal fungus to colonize plant roots (colonization capacity) and to increase plant growth at a deficient supply of P (effectiveness) declines after repeated subculture on agar media.

Dynamics of biotic resistance to plant invasions

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Biotic resistance, the reduction in invasion success caused by native communities, plays an important role in the long‐term dynamics of biological invasions. A large body of empirical research on biotic resistance has accumulated since the last comprehensive review on the subject 20 years ago, enabling us to achieve a refined understanding of ...

Carrion ecology: concepts, interdisciplinary synthesis, and perspectives

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Carrion is a ubiquitous resource in both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, yet it has long been overlooked in ecological research. Over the past two decades, studies on carrion and the many organisms that exploit it have flourished, revealing not only wide‐ranging ecological functions but also significance far beyond ecology.

Environmental Control for Edible Fungi Cultivation Based on Temporal Information and Deep Learning

open access: yesFood Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Currently, there are still prevalent issues in greenhouse environmental regulation, such as response lag, low control accuracy, and difficulty in coping with sudden environmental disturbances. To achieve high‐precision and dynamic control of the edible fungi cultivation environment, this study proposes an edible fungi environmental control ...
