FSH in the treatment of oligozoospermia

Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 2000
The aim of this study was to individuate parameters able to distinguish oligozoospermic subjects who will respond to follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) therapy. A group of 135 oligozoospermic subjects was divided in three groups considering basal FSH and inhibin B concentrations: group A (normal FSH and inhibin B) characterized by moderate ...

FSH: urinary and recombinant

European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology, 2004
Infertility affects approximately 10-15% of couples. To enhance the chances of conception, assisted reproductive techniques (ART) have been improved and, in the last 5 years, thousands of babies have been delivered after IVF or ICSI procedures. To obtain an appropriate and controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH), clinicians have introduced many drug ...

Immunoneutralization of Heterodimeric FSH Using FSH Beta Subunit as the Immunogen

American Journal of Reproductive Immunology, 1993
PROBLEM: Immunization with beta subunit of gonadotropin may elicit antibody formation to endogenous heterodimeric gonadotropin and result in reproductive unresponsiveness. The objectives of this study were to determine if antibodies produced in rats following immunization with human follicle stimulating hormone beta‐subunit (hFSH‐β) could bind to and ...

Development of Anti-human FSH Antibody in a Patient with Isolated FSH Deficiency [PDF]

open access: possibleThe Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1973
Antibodies to human FSH were documented in the serum of a patient previously shown to have isolated FSH deficiency. These antibodies developed subsequent to the administration of a second course of Human Menopausal Gonadotrophins (Pergonal 500). Using the ammonium sulfate precipitation method, antibodies were detected in the first week after cessation ...

Effects of Starvation on Hypothalamic FSH-RF and Pituitary FSH in Male Rats

Endocrinology, 1971
The effects of complete food removal for 7 days were determined on hypothalamic content of FSH-RF, pituitary FSH content and concentration, and weight of the anterior pituitary, testes and sex accessories of male rats. Control male rats were fed ad lib. for 7 days.

Long-acting FSH versus daily FSH for women undergoing assisted reproduction

Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2012
Assisted reproduction techniques (ART) such as in vitro fertilisation (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) can help subfertile couples to create a family. It is necessary to induce multiple follicles; this is achieved by follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) injections. Current treatment regimens prescribe daily injections of FSH (urinary FSH

Radioimmunoassay for follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) with 125 I-labeled FSH

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1968
Abstract A radioimmunoassay for the quantitative determination of FSH has been described. The assay was based upon the competition between 125 I-labeled FSH and unlabeled FSH for anti-FSH serum. Separation of free hormone from antiserum bound hormone was achieved by precipitation using an anti-rabbit gamma globulin serum.

Recombinant FSH in the treatment of oligozoospermia

Expert Opinion on Biological Therapy, 2009
FSH plays a crucial role in human reproduction. Treatment with gonadotrophins has been shown to be effective in males affected by hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism. The success of this treatment has brought about the utilization of the same therapy in infertile oligozoospermic subjects, aimed at obtaining increased sperm count.

PHYSIOLOGICAL STUDIES WITH PURIFIED HUMAN PITUITARY FSH (HP-FSH)1

The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1971
ABSTRACT Highly purified HP-FSH was administered to two amenorrheic women. In one patient a dose of 10,588 iu of HP-FSH produced only minimal estrogen secretion, while a much smaller dose of HMG (300 iu FSH and 300 iu LH) produced a prompt estrogenic response.
