Endothelial viral inclusions in Fuchs' corneal dystrophy

Human Pathology, 1987
A case of Fuchs' corneal dystrophy is presented. The patient, a 70-year-old white woman, had bilateral decreasing vision, especially while reading and driving at night. Clinical features were characteristic of Fuchs' corneal dystrophy. Ultrastructural studies demonstrated findings in Descemet's membrane typical of those previously reported with ...

The Molecular Basis of Fuchs’ Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy

Molecular Diagnosis & Therapy, 2019
Fuchs' endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD) is a common disease resulting from corneal endothelial cell dysfunction. It is inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion with incomplete penetrance, and with a female bias. Approximately half of cases occur sporadically, and the remainder are familial. Early and late-onset forms of the disease exist.

Cancer Risk in Patients With Fuchs Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy

Cornea, 2021
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to quantify cancer risk in patients with Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD). Methods: Using the 2014 to 2016 Medicare Limited 5% Data Sets—Carrier Line File, US Medicare fee-for-service beneficiaries (aged 65 years or older) with FECD ...

Matrix metalloproteinases and their inhibitors in Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy

Experimental Eye Research, 2021
Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD) is characterized by a progressive loss of corneal endothelial cells (CECs) and an abnormal accumulation of extracellular matrix in Descemet's membrane leading to increased thickness and formation of excrescences called guttae.

Genotyping methods for Fuchs corneal endothelial dystrophy

Journal Français d'Ophtalmologie
Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD) is a genetic degenerative disease characterized by the progressive degradation of the corneal endothelium, often leading to vision loss. It is the leading cause of corneal transplantation in the Western world. FECD is more common in Europe and the United States, particularly among women.

Diurnal Variation in Corneal Edema in Fuchs Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 2019
The extent of diurnal variation in corneal edema in Fuchs dystrophy is unknown. We measured corneal thickness and posterior profile over the course of the day using Scheimpflug imaging.Prospective cohort study.Participants with clinically advanced Fuchs dystrophy eyes undergoing endothelial keratoplasty and participants with healthy corneas were ...

Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy: an updated review

International Ophthalmology
The present review will summarize FECD-associated genes and pathophysiology, diagnosis, current  therapeutic approaches, and future treatment perspectives.Literature review.Fuchs' endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD) is the most common bilateral corneal dystrophy and accounts for one-third of all corneal transplants performed in the US.

The heterogeneity of Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy †

The Journal of Pathology
Abstract Late‐onset Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD) is characterized by distinct extracellular matrix deposits (guttae) within the basement membrane (Descemet's membrane) of the corneal endothelium.
