POM‐Based Water Splitting Catalyst Under Acid Conditions Driven by Its Assembly on Carbon Nanotubes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A newly‐engineered POM‐based electrocatalyst incorporating non‐innocent counter cations exhibits fast kinetics for either the OER or HER under strongly acidic conditions (1 m H2SO4), depending on whether it is assembled on carbon nanotubes (1@CNT) or physically mixed with them (1/CNT). In water‐splitting tests using a two‐electrode setup, these systems

The Efficient Combination of Taxes on Fuel and Vehicles [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2018
A tax on fuel combined with tax-exemptions or subsidies for purchase of fuel-efficient vehicles is implemented in many countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other negative externalities from road traffic. This study, however, shows that a tax on fuel should be combined with heavier taxation of fuel-efficient vehicles to curb externalities ...

Atomistic Mechanisms Triggered by Joule Heating Effects in Metallic Cu‐Bi Nanowires for Spintronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bi doped metallic Cu nanowires are promising for spintronics thanks to the stabilization of a giant spin Hall effect. However, heat resulting from current injection forces Bi to leave solution, forcing segregation into monoatomic decorations which evolve into coherent crystalline aggregates.

New vehicle characteristics and the cost of the corporate average fuel economy standard [PDF]

open access: yes
Recent legislation has increased the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFÉ) standard by 40 percent, which represents the first major increase in the standard since its creation in 1975.

Can a fermentation gas mainly produced by rumen Isotrichidae ciliates be a potential source of biohydrogen and a fuel for a chemical fuel cell? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Bacteria, fungi and protozoa inhabiting the rumen – the largest chamber of the ruminants’ stomach, release large quantities of hydrogen during the fermentation of carbohydrates.

Effect of Heavy-Truck Platooning Fuel-Efficiency Gains on Overall Fuel Efficiency

open access: yesTransportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2019
Many studies addressing the fuel-efficiency gains derived from heavy-truck platooning operations have shown that it is possible to achieve increases in fuel efficiency of 10% or more. These studies focus only on the gains realized while traveling under platooning conditions (i.e., highway speeds sustained for sizable intervals of time).

High Charge Carrier Mobility in Non‐Conjugated 3D Covalent Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A non‐conjugated 3D COF constructed via boronate ester linkages from tetraphenylene and pyrene‐based monomers is reported, which exhibits a high charge carrier mobility of 14 ± 1 cm2 V−1 s−1. ABSTRACT π‐Conjugation, π–π stacking, and long‐range order play a central role in determining charge transport efficiency in organic materials.
