Study on the ultrasonic inspection method using the full matrix capture for the in service railway wheel

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2014
The quality of wheel is especially important for the safety of high speed railway. In this paper, a new ultrasonic array inspection method, the Full Matrix Capture (FMC) has been studied and applied to the high speed railway wheel inspection, especially in the wheel web from the tread.

Imaging and reconstruction of asymmetric wrinkles in carbon fibre composites using high-frequency eddy current and full matrix capture-based ultrasound [PDF]

open access: yesComposites Part B: Engineering
Ply wrinkles are a common defect found in Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) laminates that can lead to failure in composite structures if not correctly evaluated during manufacture stages.

Full matrix capture preprocessing for multiview total focusing method imaging in welds

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America
Ultrasonic inspection of austenitic steel welds remains a complex endeavor despite significant progress in ultrasonic data acquisition and imaging methods including the multiview Total Focusing Method (TFM). However, the optimal TFM view can only be chosen with a priori knowledge of the defect position, size, and type.

Full-matrix capture with phased shift migration for flaw detection in layered objects with complex geometry

Ultrasonics, 2016
This paper introduces a method for an ultrasonic imaging with a phased array based on a wave migration algorithm. The method allows for imaging layered objects with lateral velocity variations such as objects with a complex geometry or layers that are not perpendicular to the array's axis.

ULTRASONIC PHASED ARRAY INSPECTION OF FLAWS ON WELD FUSION FACES USING FULL MATRIX CAPTURE

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2009
Work is being conducted to develop phased array inspection of stainless steel welded pipes. Ideally this uses waves reflected and mode converted at the inner surface of the pipe, but most commercial phased array controllers do not currently provide for this. Our solution was to use Full Matrix Capture (FMC) and process the data ourselves.

Enabling low-cost full matrix capture acquisition using MobileViT with binary ultrasonic data

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America
The combination of Full Matrix Capture (FMC) and the Total Focusing Method is nowadays considered the gold standard in ultrasonic imaging. However, with FMC, the size of the acquire data increases quadratically with the number of elements, leading to significant storage and processing requirements that limit its use in portable systems and complicates ...
