A Systematic Approach to Field Testing of Biological Products for Horticulture Is Required to Improve Food Security

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Agriculture and Environment, Volume 5, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Food security challenges require immediate action to increase food production. Many biological products derived from plant, animal or microbial sources claim they sustainably increase yield, but there are concerns about biosecurity to be investigated before their introduction to the field.

Capture of Saprolegnia parasitica Spores in Flow‐Through Aquaculture: First Observations

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 6, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Saprolegniosis, typically induced by oomycete Saprolegnia parasitica, is one of the most difficult pathogens in fish and other aquatic animals in freshwater systems. It is especially harmful for the endangered species landlocked salmon (Salmo salar m. sebago).

Characterization of Freshwater Natural Dissolved Organic Matter (DOM): Mechanistic Explanations for Protective Effects Against Metaltoxicity and Direct Effects on Organisms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Dissolved organic matter (DOM) exerts direct and indirect influences on aquatic organisms. In order to better understand how DOM causes these effects, potentiometric titration was carried out for a wide range of autochthonous and terrigenous freshwater ...

Comparison of humic and fulvic acids from different soils by pyrolysis-mass spectrometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
7 pages, 3 figures, 11 references.[EN]: Several recent publications showed the usefulness of pyrolysis mass spectrometry for the characterization of the organic matter of total soil samples and of soil organic matter fractions.

PVDF‐Pyrolyzed Fluorine‐Doped TiO2 for Synergistic Adsorption‐Enhanced PFOA Photocatalysis

open access: yesEcoMat, Volume 8, Issue 2, February 2026.
Fluorine‐doped TiO2 (F‐TiO2) enhances perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) remediation through synergistic adsorption and photocatalysis. Synthesized via one‐step PVDF pyrolysis, F‐TiO2 promotes nanopores and hydrophobic interactions for efficient PFOA enrichment in dilute waters, while improving charge separation under UVC light.

Use of high-dimensional spectral data to evaluate organic matter, reflectance relationships in soils [PDF]

open access: yes
Recent breakthroughs in remote sensing technology have led to the development of a spaceborne high spectral resolution imaging sensor, HIRIS, to be launched in the mid-1990s for observation of earth surface features. The effects of organic carbon content

Dissolved Organic Matter Composition in the Laurentian Great Lakes Ice and Its Contribution to Spring Melt

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, Volume 131, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Dissolved organic matter (DOM) plays a vital role in lakes, but its behavior in winter is poorly understood. This study examined the differences in DOM between lake ice and the upper water column across 18 sites in the Laurentian Great Lakes, integrating in situ sampling and remotely sensed ice data to create a mass budget model to estimate ...

Controls on dissolved organic carbon quantity and chemical character in temperate rivers of North America [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Understanding the processes controlling the transfer and chemical composition of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in freshwater systems is crucial to understanding the carbon cycle and the effects of DOC on water quality.

The mechanisms of humic substances self-assembly with biological molecules: The case study of the prion protein [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Humic substances (HS) are the largest constituent of soil organic matter and are considered as a key component of the terrestrial ecosystem. HS may facilitate the transport of organic and inorganic molecules, as well as the sorption interactions with ...
