Hormonal Contribution to Liver Regeneration

open access: yesMayo Clinic Proceedings: Innovations, Quality & Outcomes, 2020
An understanding of the molecular basis of liver regeneration will open new horizons for the development of novel therapies for chronic liver failure. Such therapies would solve the drawbacks associated with liver transplant, including the shortage of ...

mRNA therapy: A new frontier in regenerative medicine

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, Volume 3, Issue 2, March 2025.
This review discussed the potential of mRNA drugs in regenearative medicine, highlighting the key processes of mRNA therapy, focusing on therapeutic mRNA modification and delivery carriers. The preclinical and clinical studies of mRNA therapeutics for regeneration of cardiac, lung, liver, kidney, locomotor system, skin lesions and neurological ...

Emergency Management of Intoxication‐Type Inherited Metabolic Disorders

open access: yesJournal of Inherited Metabolic Disease, Volume 48, Issue 2, March 2025.
ABSTRACT In many intoxication‐type inherited metabolic disorders, the accumulation of the toxic chemical can cause acute life‐threatening emergencies. Sometimes this is the inevitable consequence of a severe metabolic defect, but it is often triggered by catabolism.

Functional characterization of a xylose transporter in Aspergillus nidulans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
BACKGROUND: The production of bioethanol from lignocellulosic feedstocks will only become economically feasible when the majority of cellulosic and hemicellulosic biopolymers can be efficiently converted into bioethanol.

Characterisation of the Self‐Sufficient Cytochrome P450 CYP116B234 From Rhodococcus globerulus and Its Suggested Native Role in 2‐Hydroxyphenylacetic Acid Metabolism

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 18, Issue 3, March 2025.
A self‐sufficient P450 gene (CYP116B234) was identified from Rhodococcus globerulus, a soil‐dwelling bacterium isolated from beneath an Eucalypt tree. CYP116B234 consists of heme and reductase domains fused in a single polypeptide. Proteomic analysis suggested the role of CYP116B234 may be to initiate 2‐hydroxyphenylacetic acid catabolism as part of ...

Microbial Cell Factories / \u201cDirect cloning in Lactobacillus plantarum: Electroporation with non-methylated plasmid DNA enhances transformation efficiency and makes shuttle vectors obsolete\u201d [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background: Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) play an important role in agricultural as well as industrial biotechnology. Development of improved LAB strains using e.g. library approaches is often limited by low transformation efficiencies wherefore one reason

Single‐cell multi‐omics deciphers hepatocyte dedifferentiation and illuminates maintenance strategies

open access: yesCell Proliferation, Volume 58, Issue 3, March 2025.
Primary porcine hepatocytes (PPHs) are important for hepatic research and clinical applications. With 10× multiome, we studied their dynamics during dedifferentiation and identified a series of key regulators of this process. Based on these findings, we further formulated a chemical combination that effectively prevents PPH dedifferentiation.

Extensive double humanization of both liver and hematopoiesis in FRGN mice

open access: yesStem Cell Research, 2014
Preclinical research in animals often fails to adequately predict the outcomes observed in human patients. Chimeric animals bearing individual human tissues have been developed to provide improved models of human-specific cellular processes.

RGS2 expression predicts amyloid-β sensitivity, MCI and Alzheimer's disease: genome-wide transcriptomic profiling and bioinformatics data mining [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most frequent cause of dementia. Misfolded protein pathological hallmarks of AD are brain deposits of amyloid-β (Aβ) plaques and phosphorylated tau neurofibrillary tangles.

Therapeutic potential of nicotinamide and ABT263 in alcohol‐associated liver disease through targeting cellular senescence

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 6, Issue 2, February 2025.
Alcohol metabolite acetaldehyde (ACH) induces senescence in the liver, which is involved in alcohol‐associated liver disease (ALD). Clearance of senescent liver cells with ABT263 reduced triglyceride (TG) in the liver, but increased ALT levels possibly via activation of the complement system.
