Spatial prediction of soil penetration resistance using functional geostatistics

open access: yesScientia Agricola
Knowledge of agricultural soils is a relevant factor for the sustainable development of farming activities. Studies on agricultural soils usually begin with the analysis of data obtained from sampling a finite number of sites in a particular region of ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

A Novel Hybrid Algorithm to Forecast Functional Time Series Based on Pattern Sequence Similarity with Application to Electricity Demand

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
The forecasting of future values is a very challenging task. In almost all scientific disciplines, the analysis of time series provides useful information and even economic benefits.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Analysis and spatial prediction of water retention curves in two types of soil

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Engenharia Agrícola e Ambiental
Soil is a medium that stores and transfers air, water, nutrients and heat to microorganisms and plants. Its water storage capacity is studied by analysing water retention curves (WRCs), which establish the relationship between soil water content and the ...

Nonparametric Estimation for Functional Data by Wavelet Threshold

open access: yesRevstat Statistical Journal, 2013
This paper deals with density and regression estimation problems for functional data. Using wavelet bases for Hilbert spaces of functions, we develop a new adaptive procedure based on a term-by-term selection of the wavelet coefficients estimators.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Beer Photodegradation in Commercial Bottles: Simultaneous Evaluation by Consumer Sensory Panels and Optical Detection

open access: yesKvasný průmysl
The impact of light on beer degradation is a well-established phenomenon, leading to development of undesirable flavours or, in severe cases, complete spoilage. This study investigates the extent to which photodegradation is perceptible to beer consumers.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.
