Describing Disability among High and Low Income Status Older Adults in Canada [PDF]

open access: yes
The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence, types, and severity of disabilities, as well as the medical conditions that may have caused disabilities among non-institutionalized older adults by high and low income. Disabled individuals aged

Limits and singularities of normal functions [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Mathematics, 2021
We construct a collection of higher Chow cycles on certain surfaces which degenerate to an arrangement of planes in general position. When its degree is 4, this construction gives a new explicit proof of the Hodge-D-Conjecture for a certain type of K3 surfaces. As an application, we also construct a certain type of threefolds with non trivial Griffiths

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Foot pain and functional limitation in healthy adults with hallux valgus: a cross-sectional study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background: Hallux valgus (HV) is a very common deformity of the first metatarsophalangeal joint that often requires surgical correction. However, the association between structural HV deformity and related foot pain and disability is unclear ...

Functional limitation among older adults in a rural area in South Kerala and its associated factors

open access: yes, 2023
Background: A person is said to have a functional limitation when he/she does not have the physical or cognitive ability to independently perform the routine activities of daily living. If recognized at an early stage, these can often be improved greatly,

Functional activity limitation of leprosy cases in an endemic area in Indonesia and recommendations for integrated participation program in society.

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2022
BackgroundLeprosy continues to be a health problem in Indonesia, with incidence reaching over 10,000 new cases by 2021. Leprosy-related disabilities cause limitation of patients' activity and participation in social activities.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

The Relationship Between Functional Limitation and Fall Injury Among Older Adults: A 12-Year National Survey Analysis

open access: yesEmergency Care and Medicine
Background: One in four U.S. adults aged ≥65 years experiences a fall annually, leading to substantial injury and morbidity. Functional limitations may serve as early markers of vulnerability to fall injury.
