Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Comparison of Faba Bean Protein Ingredients Produced Using Dry Fractionation and Isoelectric Precipitation: Techno-Functional, Nutritional and Environmental Performance

open access: yesFoods, 2020
Dry fractionated faba bean protein-rich flour (FPR) produced by milling/air classification, and faba bean protein isolate (FPI) produced by acid extraction/isoelectric precipitation were compared in terms of composition, techno-functional properties ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Properties of functions concerned with Carathéodory functions

open access: yesAnnales UMCS, Mathematica, 2013
Summary: Let \(\mathcal P_n\) denote the class of analytic functions \(p(z)\) of the form \(p(z) = 1+c_{n}z^{n} + c_{n+1}z^{n+1} + \ldots\) in the open unit disc \(\mathbb U\). Applying a result by \textit{S. S. Miller} and \textit{P. T. Mocanu} [J. Math. Anal. Appl.

Threshold Functions for Ramsey Properties [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Mathematical Society, 1995
Probabilistic methods have been used to approach many problems of Ramsey theory. In this paper we study Ramsey type questions from the point of view of random structures. Let K ( n , N ) K(n,N) be the random graph chosen uniformly from among all graphs with n n vertices and

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

First-principles calculations of carbon clathrates: comparison to silicon and germanium clathrates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We employ state-of-the-art first-principles calculations based on density-functional theory and density-functional perturbation theory to investigate relevant physical properties and phase diagram of the free guest type-I (X-46) and type-II (X-34) carbon

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Strain engineering in perovskite solar cells and its impacts on carrier dynamics

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
The residual strains in the mixed halide perovskite thin films and their effects on the solar cell devices are less understood. Here Zhu et al. study the impact of the gradient in-plane strain on the carrier dynamics of the strained perovskite films and ...
