Vertex method for computing functions of fuzzy variables

open access: yesFuzzy Sets and Systems, 1987
The calculation of (fuzzy) values of functions of fuzzy variables is considered. A so-called vertex method is proposed which is based on interval analysis, discretization, extension principle and alfa-cuts of the respective fuzzy sets. The method is easily implementable, and yields normal fuzzy sets, without widening of the resulting function value set.

ESTIMATION OF A SEMIPARAMETRICIGARCH(1,1) MODEL [PDF]

open access: yes
We propose a semiparametric IGARCH model that allows for persistence invariance but also allows for more flexible functional form. We assume that thedifference of the squared process is weakly stationary.

The mRMR variable selection method: a comparative study for functional data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The use of variable selection methods is particularly appealing in statistical problems with functional data. The obvious general criterion for variable selection is to choose the ‘most representative’ or ‘most relevant’ variables.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Robust forecasting of mortality and fertility rates: a functional data approach [PDF]

open access: yes
We propose a new method for forecasting age-specific mortality and fertility rates observed over time. Our approach allows for smooth functions of age, is robust for outlying years due to wars and epidemics, and provides a modelling framework that is ...

A Multiscale Approach for Statistical Characterization of Functional Images [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Increasingly, scientific studies yield functional image data, in which the observed data consist of sets of curves recorded on the pixels of the image.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

A new concept of q-calculus with respect to another function

open access: yesJournal of Innovative Applied Mathematics and Computational Sciences
In this paper, we present an approach to quantum calculus and its applications through a functional method. This approach enables the exploration of the number-theoretic properties of q-calculus in a functional framework, facilitating the modification ...

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.
