Grading Functions and Mesh Redistribution

SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis, 1985
Asymptotically optimal mesh gradings are derived for interpolation using \(H^ p\) seminorms. An algorithm for computing an interpolating mesh that approximately minimizes the \(H^ p\) seminorm of the error is obtained. An example illustrates some aspects of the procedure.

Thermomechanical bending analysis of functionally graded sandwich plates with both functionally graded face sheets and functionally graded cores

Mechanics of Advanced Materials and Structures, 2017
ABSTRACTThe bending response of functionally graded material (FGM) sandwich plates subjected to thermomechanical loads is investigated using a four-variable refined plate theory. A new type of FGM sandwich plate, namely, both FGM face sheets and an FGM hard core, is considered. Containing only four unknown functions, the governing equations are deduced

Functionally Graded Bioceramics

Materials Science Forum, 1999
It has been the intention of the investigations discussed in the following to prepare graded hydroxyapatite/collagen I composites with osteoconductive properties which can be used as coatings for titanium implants or as hone replacements. Functionally graded multiphase calcium phosphate coatings can be applied for biocompatible coatings of metallic ...

Grade functions

The Stata Journal: Promoting communications on statistics and Stata, 2019
Student grade processing using Stata is more reliable than methods like spreadsheets and saves the user timeh, especially when courses are repeated. In this article, I introduce functions that automate some useful grade calculations: the functions curve grades according to combinations of a target grade mean, maximum, standard deviation, and ...

Functionally Graded Materials

2017
In modern engineering terminology, functionally graded materials (FGMs) refer to an advanced composite consisting of two or more phases. Thye are materials where the phases present are graded with spatial position within the structure. This chapter provides an overview of FGM and how it can be of benefit when utilized in engineering components ...

Functionally Graded Biocomposites

Materials Science Forum, 2012
Functionally graded materials (FGM) are characterized by a gradual change in the volume fractions of two or more components as a function of position along certain dimensions. FGM has been introduced as an alternative to laminated composites where a mismatch in properties across each layer interface is the origin of stress concentration and a source of

Functionally Graded Materials

This chapter introduces the concept of FGMs, along with a review of applications of such materials, their history, and the “traditional” methods used for the production of such a class of materials. The problems and the potential of this class of materials within additive manufacturing (printing of metals), with particular reference to 4-D printing ...

Functionally Graded Beams

2021
The objective of this chapter is to present the various analytical solutions for FGM beams based on the two-dimensional theory of elasticity. Solutions for the FGM beams were obtained by applying the displacement method (Sect. 4.1), the displacement function method (Sect. 4.2), the stress function method (Sect. 4.3), and the state space method (Sect. 4.

Functionally graded hardmetals

Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2002
Abstract One of the latest developments in the field of hardmetals and cermets used for metal cutting operations is the establishment of a functional gradient in near-surface areas of cutting tools leading to functional gradient hardmetals (FGHMs).
