Thermo-Mechanical Bending of Functionally Graded Plates
Journal of Thermal Stresses, 2008In this work the deformations of a simply supported, functionally graded, rectangular plate subjected to thermo-mechanical loadings are analysed, extending Unified Formulation by Carrera. The governing equations are derived from the Principle of Virtual Displacements accounting for the temperature as an external load only.

Three‐dimensional analysis of functionally graded plates
International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2011AbstractBased on the state‐space formalism, a three‐dimensional analysis is presented for orthotropic functionally graded rectangular plates with simply supported edges under static and dynamic loads. The material properties are assumed to be variable through the thickness.

Anisotropic, Laminated and Functionally Graded Plates
2021The purpose of this chapter is to modify the theory presented in Chap. 2 to account for a change of the constituent material—from the simple homogeneous isotropic metallic material to one that is anisotropic, or heterogeneous with multiple isotropic or fibre composite layers of different properties, or one that has its properties varying through the ...

Analysis of functionally graded plates
International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2000Summary: Theoretical formulation, Navier's solutions of rectangular plates, and finite element models based on the third-order shear deformation plate theory are presented for the analysis of through-thickness functionally graded plates. The plates are assumed to have isotropic, two-constituent material distribution through the thickness, and the ...

Vibration of Functionally Graded Plates
Volume 3: Dynamic Systems and Controls, Symposium on Design and Analysis of Advanced Structures, and Tribology, 2006This article considers the free vibration of plates for which materials properties vary continuously though the thickness. First, an examination of results available in the literature led to the discovery that the natural frequencies of such functionally graded plates are proportional to those of isotropic plates.

Thermomechanical Modeling of Functionally Graded Plates
Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures, 2008In this contribution, the 3D thermomechanical behavior of functionally graded plates subjected to transverse thermal loads is investigated by means of a series of 2D finite plate elements. In the framework of the Unified Formulation developed by Carrera (2003), the governing equations for both the heat conduction problem and the resulting ...

Residual stresses in functionally graded plates
Journal of Materials Research, 2002Macroscopic residual stresses in Al2O3/Al plates of graded composition were determined experimentally and by the finite element method (FEM). Experimental stress data were determined by sawing a notch in the plates and measuring displacements by Moiré interferometry.

Functionally Graded Biomimetic Plate with Hole
43rd AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference, 2002In this paper, we address the problem of maximizing the strength of a plate in which a circular hole is placed within a homogeneous material. We mimicked in a polyurethane plate the modulus distribution we found around a naturally occurring hole in bone by discretizing the panel into rings and matching modulus ratios (ring to given homogeneous material)
