Buckling of Laminated and Functionally Graded Plates using Radial Basis Functions

Civil-Comp Proceedings, 2012
A hyperbolic sine shear deformation theory is used for the buckling analysis of functionally graded plates, accounting for through-the-thickness deformations. The linearized buckling equations and boundary conditions are derived using Carrera's Unified Formulation and further interpolated by collocation with radial basis functions.

Maximization of Natural Frequencies for Functionally Graded Rectangular Plates

Key Engineering Materials, 2021
In this paper optimal design of free vibrations for functionally graded plates is studied using the analytical methods. The analytical methods can be employed for the solution of six of 21 arbitrary boundary conditions (the combinations of clamped, simply supported and free).

In-Plane Thermal Residual Stresses in Functionally Graded Plates

Volume 1: Applied Mechanics; Automotive Systems; Biomedical Biotechnology Engineering; Computational Mechanics; Design; Digital Manufacturing; Education; Marine and Aerospace Applications, 2014
This study addresses in-plane thermal residual stresses in two-dimensional functionally graded plates under a constant in-plane heat flux. The plate material properties vary with a power law along two in-plane directions not through the plate thickness.

Functionally graded plates behave like homogeneous plates

Composites Part B: Engineering, 2008
In recent years many articles concerned with the mechanics of functionally graded plates have been published. Usually new analysis methods are developed to handle the continuous variation in material properties through the thickness of the plate and extensive results are presented.

The Surface Crack Problem for a Plate With Functionally Graded Properties

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1997
In this study the plane elasticity problem for a nonhomogeneous layer containing a crack perpendicular to the boundaries is considered. It is assumed that the Young’s modulus of the medium varies continuously in the thickness direction. The problem is solved under three different loading conditions, namely fixed grip, membrane loading, and bending ...

Thermomechanical bending analysis of functionally graded sandwich plates with both functionally graded face sheets and functionally graded cores

Mechanics of Advanced Materials and Structures, 2017
ABSTRACTThe bending response of functionally graded material (FGM) sandwich plates subjected to thermomechanical loads is investigated using a four-variable refined plate theory. A new type of FGM sandwich plate, namely, both FGM face sheets and an FGM hard core, is considered. Containing only four unknown functions, the governing equations are deduced

Functionally graded particulate composite plates: A dydactic case study

2015 3rd Experiment International Conference (exp.at'15), 2015
This work is part of an educational symbolic platform which was designed to aid and promote the learning of the mechanical behaviour of thin, simply supported rectangular plates. The integration of such simulation tools into the teaching process as an assisting tool can be an additional factor to contribute for a successful competences achievement on ...

Plane Thermoelastic Problem in a Functionally Graded Plate with an Oblique Boundary to the Functional Graded Direction

Journal of Thermal Stresses, 2007
This article presents analytical results for plane thermoelastic stresses in a functionally graded material plate (FGMP) with an oblique boundary to the functional graded direction subjected to a partial heating. The material properties are expressed in terms of exponential functions of the position. The general solution of plane thermoelastic equation
