Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Comparison moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces

open access: yes, 2017
We define a kind of moduli space of nested surfaces and mappings, which we call a comparison moduli space. We review examples of such spaces in geometric function theory and modern Teichmueller theory, and illustrate how a wide range of phenomena in ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Functions of Generalized Bounded Variation

open access: yes, 2013
This thesis is devoted to the study of different generalizations of the classical conception of a function of bounded variation. First, we study the functions of bounded p-variation introduced by Wiener in 1924. We obtain estimates of the total p-variation (1<p<∞) and other related functionals for a periodic function f in Lp([0,1]) in terms of ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Regularizing effect of absorption terms in singular problems

open access: yes, 2018
We prove existence of solutions to problems whose model is $$\begin{cases} \displaystyle -\Delta_p u + u^q = \frac{f}{u^\gamma} & \text{in}\ \Omega, \newline u\ge0 &\text{in}\ \Omega,\newline u=0 &\text{on}\ \partial\Omega, \end{cases ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Discretized Multinomial Distributions and Nash Equilibria in Anonymous Games

open access: yes, 2008
We show that there is a polynomial-time approximation scheme for computing Nash equilibria in anonymous games with any fixed number of strategies (a very broad and important class of games), extending the two-strategy result of Daskalakis and ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Cascade of minimizers for a nonlocal isoperimetric problem in thin domains

open access: yes, 2014
For $\Omega_\e=(0,\e)\times (0,1)$ a thin rectangle, we consider minimization of the two-dimensional nonlocal isoperimetric problem given by \[ \inf_u E^{\gamma}_{\Omega_\e}(u)\] where \[ E^{\gamma}_{\Omega_\e}(u):= P_{\Omega_\e}(\{u(x)=1\})+\gamma\int_{\
