Resistant and susceptible pea lines harbour different root-rot pathogens and antagonistic fungi [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Disease resistance encompasses the mechanisms that allow a plant to withstand or ward off a pathogen. The molecular responses of plants under pathogen attack and the underlying genetics have been extensively studied.

Amodiaquine Enhances Anti‐Melanoma Efficacy of Attenuated Salmonella via Targeting Glutathione Reductase in Neutrophils

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that Salmonella VNP20009 recruits pro‐tumor neutrophils that reduce its anticancer efficacy. Combining VNP with amodiaquine selectively eliminates these neutrophils by targeting glutathione reductase. A GR‐shRNA‐loaded VNP strain was further developed, demonstrating an innovative strategy integrating drug repurposing with synthetic ...

Characterization and Fungicide Sensitivity of Phaeosphaeriopsis obtusispora That Causes Marginal Leaf Blight in Agave hybrid H.11648

open access: yesJournal of Fungi
Sisal is an important tropical cash crop in southern China. Unfortunately, it is threatened by various diseases. In 2022, a new disease tentatively named marginal leaf blight disease (MLBD) was first observed in sisal fields across Guangxi and Guangdong ...

GbWAKL20 Phosphorylates GbNFYB8 to Modulate Verticillium Wilt Resistance in Cotton

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Wall‐associated receptor‐like kinases (WAKLs) play pivotal roles in extracellular–intracellular signal transduction. Upon sensing Verticillium dahliae infestation at the plasma membrane, GbWAKL20 accumulates and transmits signals to the nucleus via endoplasmic reticulum‐mediated Golgi vesicle transport.

Isolation of Endophytic Bacteria from Kentucky Bluegrass and the Biocontrol Effects of Neobacillus sp. 718 on Powdery Mildew

open access: yesPlants
Kentucky bluegrass powdery mildew, caused by the fungus Blumeria graminis f. sp. poae, is a destructive disease affecting Poa pratensis L. In this study, endophytic bacteria were isolated from the resistant Kentucky bluegrass cultivar ‘Taihang ...

A Deep Representation Learning Method for Quantitative Immune Defense Function Evaluation and Its Clinical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ImmuDef, a novel algorithm to quantitatively evaluate the anti‐infection immune defense function of an individual based on RNA‐seq data via a variational autoencoder (VAE) model. It is validated on 3200+ samples across four immune states with high accuracy. It can serve as a metric for disease severity and prognosis across pathogenic cohorts.

OTUD6A in Airway Epithelial Cells Exacerbates Allergic Asthma by Promoting Airway Inflammation and Airway Remodeling Through Deubiquitination of hResistin/mRELMα

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study elucidates a novel mechanistic role of the deubiquitinase OTUD6A in asthma pathogenesis, uncovering its regulatory function in airway inflammation and airway remodeling through the stabilization of hResistin/mRELMα. This study offers a novel regulatory axis (OTUD6A‐hResistin/mRELMα) in asthma pathogenesis and OTUD6A inhibition as a potential

Isolation and identification of blueberry postharvest decay pathogen and control effect of 2,4-epibrassinolide

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Due to its thin, juicy skin and high physiological activity, blueberries are easily susceptible to damage by pathogenic bacteria during storage and transportation after harvest.

Pan2‐Pan3 Complex‐Mediated Deadenylation Enforces mRNA Quality Control for Infection of the Rice Blast Fungus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Discovery that deadenylation, rather than transcription, acts as the rate‐limiting step for developmental timing in a plant pathogen. Evidence that P‐body integrity and mRNA decay are mechanistically coupled to rapid cellular differentiation under environmental stress. Identification of Pan2‐Pan3 as a pathogen‐specific “meta‐virulence factor” absent in

Cladobotryum mycophilum as Potential Biocontrol Agent [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A study was conducted to explore the efficacy of potential biocontrol agent Cladobotryum mycophilum against different phytopathogenic fungi. The growth rates of 24 isolates of C. mycophilum were determined, and their antagonistic activity was analysed in
