Chronic viral funisitis

open access: yesThe Journal of Pediatrics, 1977
Four cases chronic funisitis, a rare variant of umbilical cord inflammation, are presented and compared with the acute and subacute forms. The distinctive findings are a predominantly lymphoplasmocytic infiltration, coagulative necorsis of the vascular media with secondary calcification, and the unusual association of chronic funisitis with chronic ...

Increased numbers of macrophages in tracheal aspirates in premature infants with funisitis

Pediatrics International, 2008
AbstractBackground: Funisitis is a manifestation of the fetal inflammatory response syndrome, and intrauterine inflammation is involved in the pathogenesis of lung injury in premature infants. The aim of the present paper was to examine the relationship between funisitis and lung injury in premature infants born at <28 weeks gestation.

The presence of funisitis is associated with a decreased risk for the development of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome

open access: yesPlacenta, 2011
OBJECTIVES : Fetal lung maturation and respiratory outcomes are influenced by the exposure to intrauterine inflammation. Funisitis is considered as the histologic hallmark of fetal inflammatory response.

Funisitis in term pregnancy is associated with microbial invasion of the amniotic cavity and intra-amniotic inflammation

open access: yesJournal of Maternal-Fetal and Neonatal Medicine, 2006
OBJECTIVE: Funisitis is the histologic counterpart of the fetal inflammatory response syndrome, which is a multisystemic disorder associated with impending preterm delivery and adverse neonatal outcome.

Congenital Syphilis and Necrotizing Funisitis

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1989
During the past 5 years we encountered 16 cases of necrotizing funisitis, a deeply seated inflammatory process within the matrix of the umbilical cord, and established that all of them were associated with maternal and congenital syphilis. During that time necrotizing funisitis was not found to be associated with any other infection.

A prediction model of histological chorioamnionitis and funisitis in preterm prelabor rupture of membranes: analyses of multiple proteins in the amniotic fluid

open access: yesJournal of Maternal-Fetal and Neonatal Medicine, 2012
Objective: To determine the best prediction model of histological chorioamnionitis and funisitis in preterm prelabor rupture of membranes (PPROM) using selected candidate proteins in the amniotic fluid (AF). Material and methods: Prospective cohort study.

Chorioamnionitis and Funisitis

NeoReviews, 2008
Chorioamnionitis is a common complication of pregnancy, especially in preterm deliveries. This review covers the current understanding of the implications of the maternal and fetal inflammatory response in assessing the risk of neonatal sepsis, complications of prematurity, and risk of adverse neurologic sequelae.

Prenatal diagnosis of funisitis: two case reports

Journal of Medical Ultrasonics, 2018
Acute funisitis is characterized by the infiltration of fetal neutrophils from the umbilical vessels into Wharton's jelly and presents as fetal inflammation. However, no reports about its prenatal diagnosis using ultrasonography have been published. We encountered one case of oligohydramnios at 26 weeks and another case of threatened premature delivery

Postnatal changes of cytokines in premature infants with or without funisitis

The Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine, 2013
Fetal inflammatory response syndrome (FIRS), which induces hypercytokinemia, is important for the outcomes of premature infants. It is necessary to focus on the fetal inflammatory environments.A total of 37 premature infants (gestational age ≤32 weeks) were divided into three groups: (1) 15 without chorioamnionitis (CAM) and funisitis; C(-)F(-) group, (

Dermatophilus congolensis-Associated Placentitis, Funisitis and Abortion in a Horse

Transboundary and Emerging Diseases, 2008
Placentitis, funisitis and fetal bronchopneumonia were diagnosed in an aborted full-term Thoroughbred fetus and its placenta by histopathological examination. Dermatophilus congolensis organisms were isolated from placenta, lung and stomach content. The genotypic identification of aerobic culture was confirmed by sequential analysis of the entire 16S ...
