Necrotizing funisitis.

Obstetrics and gynecology, 1992
Necrotizing funisitis is an umbilical cord lesion characterized by perivascular bands of necrotic Wharton jelly containing inflammatory cells in various stages of degeneration. Sixty cases were reviewed histologically. Clinical information was available in 45. Forty-five age-matched infants with acute (nonspecific) funisitis only were used as controls.

Dermatophilus congolensis-Associated Placentitis, Funisitis and Abortion in a Horse

Transboundary and Emerging Diseases, 2008
Placentitis, funisitis and fetal bronchopneumonia were diagnosed in an aborted full-term Thoroughbred fetus and its placenta by histopathological examination. Dermatophilus congolensis organisms were isolated from placenta, lung and stomach content. The genotypic identification of aerobic culture was confirmed by sequential analysis of the entire 16S ...

[Necrotic funisitis].

Revue francaise de gynecologie et d'obstetrique, 1983
The authors report eighty eight cases of a perticular type of funisitis characterized by perivascular necrosis of Wharton's jelly. The accompanying leucocyte reaction is weak, and sometimes nil, and the inflammatory lesions of the placenta are also moderate, and sometimes absent.

The relationship between amniotic fluid matrix metalloproteinase-8 and funisitis

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 2001
The fetal inflammatory response syndrome is a multisystem disorder associated with impending preterm delivery and adverse neonatal outcome. Inflammation of the umbilical cord--funisitis--is the histologic counterpart of fetal inflammatory response syndrome and has been associated with an increased risk for the development of cerebral palsy. Neutrophils

Acute funisitis is associated with distinct changes in fetal hematologic profile

The Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine, 2014
Acute funisitis is a histologic hallmark of the fetal inflammatory response syndrome. This study was conducted to examine the hematologic profiles of preterm newborns with funisitis. The hematologic profiles of umbilical cord blood obtained at birth were compared according to the presence or absence of acute funisitis in 197 preterm neonates ...

Diagnostic Accuracy of Histological Chorioamnionitis and Funisitis in Neonatal Sepsis

Journal of Neonatology, 2023
Background Histological chorioamnionitis (HCA) is present not only in women with clinical chorioamnionitis (CCA) but also in a large subset with silent chorioamnionitis which has a risk of developing complications of preterm labor, fetal, and maternal infection.

Association between clinical chorioamnionitis and histological funisitis at term

Journal of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, 2018
To predict the presence of histological funisitis at term, we examined the symptoms of clinical chorioamnionitis in 251 cases of maternal fever of 38 degrees or higher during labor at term. The examined symptoms in this study were clinical maternal findings (uterine fundal tenderness, maternal tachycardia, purulent or foul amniotic fluid or cervical ...

Postnatal changes of cytokines in premature infants with or without funisitis

The Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine, 2013
Fetal inflammatory response syndrome (FIRS), which induces hypercytokinemia, is important for the outcomes of premature infants. It is necessary to focus on the fetal inflammatory environments.A total of 37 premature infants (gestational age ≤32 weeks) were divided into three groups: (1) 15 without chorioamnionitis (CAM) and funisitis; C(-)F(-) group, (

Necrotizing Funisitis Associated withActinomyces MeyeriInfection: A Case Report

Pediatric Pathology, 1994
