Protective Effect of Bergapten against Human Erythrocyte Hemolysis and Protein Denaturation In Vitro

open access: yesInternational Journal of Inflammation, 2021
Bergapten, a furocoumarin found in many medicinal plants, is used for the management of various conditions. The present in vitro study evaluated the ability of bergapten to prevent human erythrocyte hemolysis and protein denaturation.

The effects of post‐harvest pretreatments and drying methods on in vitro bioaccessibility of phenolics and carotenoids in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) cultivars

open access: yesJournal of Food Science, Volume 90, Issue 2, February 2025.
Abstract Two pretreatments (ultrasound sonication [US] and microwave [MW]) and drying techniques (hot air [HA] and freeze‐drying [FD]) were used to assess the in vitro bioaccessibility of phenols, carotenoids, and antioxidant activity in three tomato cultivars (Zzx171, Zzx162, and Zzx65). The metabolome‐chemometric analysis showed that tomato cultivars

Synthesis and Cytotoxic Activity of a New Group of Heterocyclic Analogues of the Combretastatins

open access: yesMolecules, 2014
A series of new analogs of combretastatin A-4 (CA-4, 1) with the A or B-ring replaced by a 3-oxo-2,3-dihydrofurocoumarin or a furocoumarin residue have been designed and synthesized by employing a cross-coupling approach. All the compounds were evaluated

Recent Perspectives on Anticancer Potential of Coumarin Against Different Human Malignancies: An Updated Review

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 1, January 2025.
The paper highlights coumarin's ability to induce apoptosis, inhibit cell proliferation, and interfere with cancer cell signaling pathways. Coumarin disrupts key signaling pathways, including NF‐κB and PI3K/Akt, which are crucial for cancer cell survival and proliferation.

Psoralen and Isopsoralen Activate Nuclear Factor Erythroid 2‐Related Factor 2 Through Interaction With Kelch‐Like ECH‐Associated Protein 1

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 1, January 2025.
Psoralen and its isomer isopsoralen induced the gene and protein expression of Nrf2‐mediated antioxidant targets. Psoralen and isopsoralen activate Nrf2 through interaction with Keap1. The molecular basis for the binding of psoralen and isopsoralen to Keap1 is explored.

Herbal Amara extract induces gastric fundus relaxation via inhibition of the M2 muscarinic receptor

open access: yesNeurogastroenterology &Motility, Volume 37, Issue 1, January 2025.
This preclinical study demonstrates the relaxant effect of Amara herbal extract (containing nine different plant extracts) on fundus smooth muscles dissected from guinea pigs. This relaxant effect occurs via inhibition of M2 muscarinic receptor activity.
