Study of an ADS Loaded with Thorium and Reprocessed Fuel
Accelerator‐driven systems (ADSs) are investigated for long‐lived fission product transmutation and fuel regeneration. The aim of this paper is to investigate the nuclear fuel evolution and the neutronic parameters of a lead‐cooled accelerator‐driven system used for fuel breeding. The fuel used in some fuel rods was 232ThO2 for 233U production.

Deuterium retention in tin (Sn) and lithium–tin (Li–Sn) samples exposed to ISTTOK plasmas
The use of lithium (Li) or tin (Sn) as a liquid metal plasma facing component is proposed as a solution to the high power load issue on the divertor region of nuclear fusion reactors.

Strong shear flow regions found in astrophysical jets are shown to be important dissipation regions, where the shear flow kinetic energy flow is converted into electric and magnetic field energy via shear instabilities.

Multi-mJ Scaling of 5-Optical Cycle, 3 µm OPCPA
We present the design of an ultrafast optical parametric chirped pulse amplifier (OPCPA) operating at 3 µm yielding few-cycle pulses and multi-mJ output energy.

Amplification and generation of ultra-intense twisted laser pulses via stimulated Raman scattering
High intensity light with a non-zero orbital angular momentum could aid the development of laser-wakefield particle accelerators. Here, the authors theoretically show that stimulated Raman backscattering in plasmas can generate and amplify orbital ...

Laser-wakefield accelerators as hard x-ray sources for 3D medical imaging of human bone [PDF]
A bright μm-sized source of hard synchrotron x-rays (critical energy Ecrit > 30 keV) based on the betatron oscillations of laser wakefield accelerated electrons has been developed.

Energy cascades through the degrees of freedom of CO 2 like through a set of funnels. The funnel of symmetric stretching and bending is so wide that it is no obstacle to the energy. Exciting the system with single pulses prevents most energy from being deployed in chemical reactions.
