Early Contributions Leading to Understanding the Significance of Epichloë Endophyte in Temperate Grasses

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Agricultural Research, Volume 69, Issue 5, October 2026.
The role and use of Epichloë fungal endophytes in grazed temperate grass pastures and turf grasses are now well understood with regard to balancing pasture persistence while minimising animal health and welfare concerns. However, this understanding has only emerged since the early 1980s. Prior to this, although links between Epichloë endophytes, animal

The Biological Roles of Class II Hydrophobins at the Cell Wall of Filamentous Ascomycetes

open access: yesJournal of Basic Microbiology, Volume 66, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT One of the most elusive aspects of fungal cell wall biology has been dilucidating the specific functions of most cell wall proteins. Class II hydrophobins are small amphipathic proteins produced exclusively by filamentous ascomycetes. A comparative synthesis of their biological functions across species has been lacking for this specific group ...

From Rhizosphere to Resistance: Microbe‐Plant Interactions in Eco‐Smart Biocontrol

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
Conceptual framework of eco‐smart biocontrol: Root exudates released by plants shape rhizosphere microbial community assembly by selectively recruiting beneficial microorganisms. These microbes suppress phytopathogens through direct mechanisms such as antibiosis, parasitism, enzyme production, and niche competition, while simultaneously activating ...

Antimicrobial and Antibiofilm Activity of an Endophytic Fungus, Daldinia sp. Isolated From Avicennia officinalis

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
An endophytic fungus (Daldinia sp.) was isolated from the leaves of Avicennia officinalis collected from mangrove forests of Goa. The ethyl acetate extract of Avicennia officinalis (AO‐EA) of the identified endophyte demonstrated antibacterial and antibiofilm activity against Escherichia coli and Shigella sp.
