Application of Omics Technologies for Cowpea Improvement

open access: yesPlant-Environment Interactions, Volume 7, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) is a vital crop for food security, nutrition, and climate resilience in sub‐Saharan African and other semi‐arid regions. However, its improvement is constrained by the complexity of polygenic traits such as drought tolerance, pest resistance, and seed quality.

Nanopriming and Nanocoating as a Next‐Generation Seed Treatment for Enhanced Plant Growth and Pathogen Resistance

open access: yesPlant-Environment Interactions, Volume 7, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT In pursuit of sustainable agriculture, current strategies continue to explore environmentally friendly inputs that promote plant development. Seed treatment is an ancient practice used to break seed dormancy and hasten germination. Although traditional seed treatments yield positive outcomes, the methods adopted raise concerns about the ...

Neighbour Effects and Dynamics of Plant‐Associated Microbiomes in a Strip‐Crop System

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 5, October 2026.
Distinct plant species differentially affect the assembly of host‐associated microbial communities in a strip‐crop system. Crop neighbouring effects on the microbiomes were highest at the edge of the strips, which further reveals reduced leaf pathogens.

The ZmRACK1–ZmCDPK7–ZmAPX1 module regulates plant antiviral immunity

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, Volume 68, Issue 10, Page 3830-3845, October 2026.
In maize, ZmRACK1 acts as a scaffold protein that bridges the cyclin‐dependent kinase ZmCDPK7 and the ascorbate peroxidase ZmAPX1, promoting ZmAPX1 activity to mitigate MCMV infection. Upon viral infection, P31 obstructs formation of the ZmRACK1‐ZmCDPK7‐ZmAPX1 complex, inhibiting ZmCDPK7‐mediated ZmAPX1 activity and promoting reactive oxygen species ...

Disabling a conserved module confers broad‐spectrum resistance

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, Volume 68, Issue 10, Page 3537-3539, October 2026.
This commentary reviews the discovery by Yuan et al. of a conserved susceptibility module where fungal Gas2 stabilizes host SnRK1β1A to suppress nuclear immunity in rice. It discusses the mechanism for broad‐spectrum resistance via genome editing and considers the essential balance between enhanced defense and associated agronomic trade‐offs.

β‐myrcene: A nature‐identical compound for sustainable aquaculture

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, Volume 57, Issue 5, October 2026.
Abstract Sustainability is essential for the continued development of aquaculture. A key aspect of sustainable aquaculture involves using natural and organic compounds as alternatives to chemical counterparts. Herbal‐derived compounds have gained significant attention because of their eco‐friendly properties and health benefits.
