Glycosylated LGALS3BP is highly secreted by bladder cancer cells and represents a novel urinary disease biomarker

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urinary LGALS3BP is elevated in bladder cancer patients compared to healthy controls as detected by the 1959 antibody–based ELISA. The antibody shows enhanced reactivity to the high‐mannose glycosylated variant secreted by cancer cells treated with kifunensine (KIF).

MRJP3-C113, a major royal jelly protein 3-derived fragment, accelerated cutaneous wound healing through RHBDF2-mediated activation of EGFR/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway

open access: yesFood Science and Human Wellness
Keratinocytes, the major cell types of the epidermis, proliferate and migrate during wound healing to restore the epithelial barrier. Royal jelly is a traditional remedy used in wound repair. Our previous study found that the mixture of major royal jelly

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.

Stoichiometric Multiprotein Assembly Scaffolded by a Heterotrimeric DNA Clamp for Enzyme Colocalization and DNA Functionalization

open access: yesSynBio
Researchers strive to exploit kinetic potentials of multistep reactions by positioning enzymes in a regulated fashion. Therein, the proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) from Sulfolobus solfataricus is a promising biomolecular tool due to its ...

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

NUP214 in Acute Myeloid Leukemia

open access: yesCells
Nucleoporin 214 (NUP214) is a component of the nucleopore molecular complex, but in addition to this role in nucleocytoplasmic transport it is also involved in the regulation of gene transcription/translation, intracellular signaling, cell cycle ...

Reduced vascular leakage correlates with breast carcinoma T regulatory cell infiltration but not with metastatic propensity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A mouse model for vascular normalization and a human breast cancer cohort were studied to understand the relationship between vascular leakage and tumor immune suppression. For this, endothelial and immune cell RNAseq, staining for vascular function, and immune cell profiling were employed.

Identification and analysis of the crucial holin domain and sites and the bactericidal activity of a holin–endolysin lysis cassette from phage PZL-Ah152 against Aeromonas hydrophila

open access: yesJournal of Virology
With the increasing prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, phage therapy has garnered significant attention. Holin and lysin play essential roles in the phage-induced lysis of bacteria. This study investigated the functions of the holin protein Hol

Translocation arrest by reversible folding of a precursor protein imported into mitochondria [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Passage of precursor proteins through translocation contact sites of mitochondria was investigated by studying the import of a fusion protein consisting of the NH2-terminal 167 amino acids of yeast cytochrome b2 precursor and the complete mouse ...

Liquid biopsy epigenetics: establishing a molecular profile based on cell‐free DNA

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) fragments in plasma from cancer patients carry epigenetic signatures reflecting their cells of origin. These epigenetic features include DNA methylation, nucleosome modifications, and variations in fragmentation. This review describes the biological properties of each feature and explores optimal strategies for harnessing cfDNA ...
