The ignitability, fuel ratio and ash fusion temperatures of torrefied woody biomass

open access: yesHeliyon, 2020
The impact of torrefaction temperature on the ignitability, fuel ratio and ash fusion temperatures of two tropical deciduous woods (Teak and Melina) were investigated in a setup of tubular furnace.

High-temperature plasmas in a tokamak fusion test reactor [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 1987
Neutral-beam heating of plasmas in the Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor at low preinjection densities (n/sub e/(0)approx. =10/sup 19/ m/sup -3/) were characterized by T/sub e/(0) = 6.5 keV, T/sub i/(0) = 20 keV, n/sub e/(0) = 7 x 10/sup 19/ m/sup -3/, tau/sub E/ = 170 msec, ..beta../sub t//sub h//sub e//sub t//sub a/ = 2, and a d(d,n)/sup 3/He neutron ...

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Reed as a gasification fuel: a comparison with woody fuels [PDF]

open access: yesMires and Peat, 2013
Reed and coniferous wood can be used for energy production via thermochemical conversion, for instance by gasification. The rate-determining step of the gasification process is the reaction between the char and the gaseous environment in the gasifier ...

Muon-catalyzed D-T fusion at low temperature [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 1987
Muon-catalyzed deuterium-tritium fusion was investigated within a wide range of mixtures in liquid and gas (23--35 K) by detection of fusion neutrons. Our improved analysis includes hyperfine effects and allows a clear separation of intrinsic dt sticking ${\ensuremath{\omega}}_{s}$ from kinetic effects.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Numerical performance assessment of double-shell targets for Z-pinch dynamic hohlraum

open access: yesMatter and Radiation at Extremes, 2022
A Z-pinch dynamic hohlraum can create the high-temperature radiation field required by indirect-drive inertial confinement fusion. A dynamic hohlraum with peak radiation temperature over 300 eV can be obtained with a >50 MA Z-pinch driver according to ...

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Enhancement of self-similar growth in multimode ablative Rayleigh–Taylor instability by self-generated magnetic fields

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
The self-generated magnetic field coupled with the growth of multimode ablative Rayleigh–Taylor instability (ARTI) is investigated by numerical simulations with Nernst effects, resistivity and magnetized heat conduction taken into account.

Overview of Magnetic Confinement Controlled Nuclear Fusion Reactors and Superconducting Magnet Technologies

open access: yes发电技术
ObjectivesMagnetic confinement fusion is regarded as a critical solution to future global energy challenges. As the central component of magnetic confinement fusion devices, magnets play a crucial role in generating and sustaining plasma stability.
