Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Transfer of Development Rights: Smart Growth Recommendations from New Jersey Future

open access: yes, 2004
This New Jersey Future (NJF) position paper gives recommendations on smart growth and argues that New Jersey towns need Transfer of Development Rights (TDR), calling on the Legislature and the Governor to craft a workable TDR program that would be ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

The Future of Futurism

open access: yes, 2016
At exactly 100 years after its birth, Futurism is revisited in terms of the new potentialities offered by Digital Photography (via “Painting with Light”). It is discussed how Futurism aimed at depicting “dynamism” and why Digital Photography, generating variations of the same basic ideas, can offer a “Future to Futurism”.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Universal Reason, Aporias and the Future of Literature

open access: yesRevue LISA, 2004
Cet article s’intéresse aux arguments qui ont cours depuis les années 1980-1990 dans les débats au sein les universités américaines à propos du « politiquement correct » et de la « guerre des cultures ». L’argument qui revient constamment dans ces débats

Living with the Future in Mind: Goals and Indicators for New Jersey's Quality of Life

open access: yes, 1999
This report is a "report card" on the long-term trends that can enhance or destroy the quality of life in New Jersey, as well as the lives of those that will inherit the Garden State in the future. Eleven goals are offered in this report, as a result of

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
